Basically anything above 6.0 for a manual and about 6.5 for an automatic is the lower limit (IMO). If you get lower than that on an auto your car will start to die when you come to stoplights, especially with any load on the engine, such as AC, lights, etc.

If it were up to me, I'd avoid purchasing an automatic. Most autos experience many more problems in the long run compared to manual FDs. If he still has not put his money down I'd advise him to keep looking!

Forgot to say... take it to another dealership who is independent of the sale to get a compression test done. These guys could be bull$#*ting your friend by saying the compression numbers are "good". If they tell you that they won't allow it, look elsewhere.

And get numbers. You want six numbers: 3 chambers x 2 rotors, in addition to the engine rpm during the test and units of measure (kg/cm^3, psi, etc)

'Good' is not a useful answer. You need to know how close.

Each rotar has three chamers that need to be tested. That is where the six numbers come from. Also find out what the tester reads.

I am into that compression test question too. Anyone got a sample from their compression test? Or like how the numbers should look like?
