Went to the track last night.... car didn't come home!

So I decided to take the car to the local 1/8 mile track last night for the first time. 2 cars broke down.... both rx7's (figures). I'm currently troubleshooting my issue, trying to find any ideas that might help me out when I go back today and work through it.... or just haul it to a local shop.

The car broke down during my second run. The track wasn't hooking up real well, and I was on 18" street tires. Therefore, both runs I took it semi-easy out of the shoot (but still had some wheel hop) and shifted quick and easy into second to be safe. I figured it was fairly safe to go pretty hard shifting into third during my second run.... wrong.... car went sideways and evidentally my fiance's heart skipped a few beats in the stands, haha!

Anyways, it was weird.... after the car went sideways, I corrected the car and then let out of the gas to just cruise down the rest of the way. So the car was in third now and slowing down, then I give it some gas and it feels like it normally does if you're in a too high gear.... so I naturally shift it in to second.... the car's rpm's gets higher, as usual when shifting into a lower gear.... but when I get on the gas, the car has no go. The car slows down and shuts off when I come to a stop. Honestly, it felt like it does when you run out of gas. there wasn't any real loud noises and the car was generating rpm's fine, so I don't think it is engine related. And since the car won't start, but rolls fine and looks good underneath, I don't think it's axel/rear end related.

When we head back today, we are going to troubleshoot the fuel system first. Since I am new to the car, I'm not too familiar with how it is wired up and everything... but we'll see. I've seen some cars jar the safety sensor that cuts fuel in rear-end collisions at the track.... not sure if my car has that or not, but we're going to check. It's a pfsupercars build, T78 with TEC3.

Any other suggestions?

I would start by checking to see if any vacuum lines popped off.

When you gave it gas, did the rpms rise or did nothing at all happen? Also check for spark. May have just blown a coil.

When I tried to get back on the gas, nothing happened at all. The car simply slowed down and stalled out. I was able to downshift and the rpms did rise when i did that, but did not rise when i tried to accelerate.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Check for spark and fuel pressure.

FIXED!!!! Looks like when the car jerked around after breaking loose it jerked some connections loose that power the fuel pump. Wiring in the car is pretty lousy.... that may need some working on. Easy fix in the daylight.... wish I would have seen it last night, haha!

pop ur gas cap open, unscrew it, have someone (or urself if your quick) turn the key to on but dont start.

You should easily hear the fuel pump come on for a second or two, if you dont check the wiring, fuses, ect

yep... exactly... mine sounds like a freaking airplane without the gas cap open, so it was pretty easy for me to realize what wasn't working to begin with, just didn't have the light or time to fix it that night.
