went to KDR on friday
I drove my salvage title 94 fd up to KDR yesterday, and spent the majority of the day up there. They installed my dp, defi vsd boost and timer set, fan mod, etc. I posted a week or so ago, asking what you all thought about my car, and if it could have a new engine (Surprise! New engine w/o paying for it?) Anyway, here's what happened. My compression numbers were perfect! (103k on the odometer) I already lost the slips or i'd post the readouts. I knew it was good, but i'm not used to a tt 250hp car, so i still didnt know for sure. Dave said he couldnt believe that it was my original engine, but he couldnt find any signs of a reman. He did say that there's a good chance it was rebuilt or even a new replacement. (some loose bolts on the front undercarriage led him to believe that something major was done in the engine bay.) He also confirmed NO frame damage from the front end crash it was in, and when i told him i paid 10,500 for it he said it was the best deal he's seen in a while! HELL YEAH!!! That man sees so many FD's it's absolutely ridiculous, so i can now be at peace. I also somehow got a FREE water pump pulley that was wrapped up with my downpipe and exhaust stuff!! The only bad thing was that my oil pan gasket is blown which means about 50 in parts and 750 in labor but at least it's not an emergency. I was in too good of a mood to let that ruin anything. Anyway, just thought i'd share my joy with everyone!

p.s. how do i convert the defi boost gauge reading into psi?

Dave is really cool. I was there once when he fired up a 3 rotor
He is always willing to help with anything and I know friends that have taken their cars there, too, and they were always happy with his work. I saw a T-88 install from him, and it came out as clean as if it would have come out of a manufacturer.

yeah dave's definitely the best. and people know it too- i was there for about eight hours and he literally got about 60 or 70 messages easily. it was nuts. he should expand, he's gotta be making a killing right now cuz all the FD's are starting to blow their engines. I'm trying to take over his business when he retires
anybody know how to read the defi vsd gauges by any chance?

I believe 1 bar=14.7 lbs of boost if that's what you're talking about. The nice thing about Dave is he let's you watch what he is doing to your FD. Each of my trips up there I was there for 6-8 hours at a time. It's second nature to him - he just knows the FD inside and out. If you live withing a 5 hour drive from him I wouldn't take my car to anyone else - he's definitely proven in his knowledge of the FD

yeah dave definitely doesnt have time to play around online- he must have gotten at least 60 or 70 messages while i was there. oh, attn- you CANNOT go back and watch dave work anymore at KDR. i was very disappointed myself. Some ******* hurt himself back there after being told not to go back. and is suing. Who would sue dave? he said he'd give me the guy's name and phone number after the hearing we can harrass the hell out of him.

Now that you mention that, the last time I was up I was in the waiting room while Dave was figuring out what was wrong with my primary turbo. I asked Kim if I could go back in the garage and she said that Dave would be "right out" to get me. 2 hours went by and I had read every magazine from cover to cover in the waiting room. Dave finally came out and took me back to the garage but I was disappointed that I didn't get to see him work on my car for a little while. Some idiot would sue him because he couldn't watch his step.

Rob vs Dave
So who would you have an FD motor built by--Rob of Pineapple or Dave of KD Rotary...
I live in Indy, so my gut says Dave...but I'm reading lots of fine recommendations for Rob of Pineapple...
I'm also just considering getting a stock reman from Malloy Mazda from Ray Crowe??
I'm basically confused....
