We lost a 3rd gen pioneer on Friday - Kevin Wyum died on Friday.
On Friday, June 4th, Kevin Wyum died in a motorcycle accident.
Kevin Wyum was my original mentor in the 3rd gen world and was a good friend. I am still in shock at the sudden loss as I spoke with Kevin often and have been to his house many times.
He will be missed.
Here is a link to a local article on the accident:

OMG.... Like Damian, I'm shocked. Kevin was highly regarded on this board, and on the RX-7 email list that preceded internet forums. He was huge innovator in the early years of Gen 3 aftermarket parts development and will be deeply missed. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Everyone should read the article link and live each day to it's fullest!!

Truly an FD pioneer, very sad and my deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
I remember his extremely fast (under 12 seconds if I recall correctly) 1/4 mile times long ago with a basically bone stock non sequential FD.

This is one of your worst fears as a motorcyclist: having a deer jump out in front of you when you're travelling at high speed, there isn't much you're going to be able to do, it might just happen to me someday....fortunately I know the Judge of All Men so I'm going to keep hammering the throttle anyway

My condolences to all of his family and friends. On the bright side, he will live on for ever through all the knowledge he left on the internet for us to soak up and for those lucky few who have his parts on their RX-7s.
It seems like we've been losing many great people in the RX-7 community lately.
May he rest in peace and hopefully he's having a great time with all the great rotary people that have left us.

WOW.. I remember pming him many a time back in the day.. Back when we were all noobs! Dont take this wrong but another reason I wont get on a bike. You dont have a chance in many collision incidents. 75% in which are not the bike's fault. RIP friend..

Racecar - Formula 2000
A long time ago I decided that I would never own a motorcycle, since I was too reckless and would probably kill myself if I did. I never thought much back then of the danger presented by other drivers, etc. And, I certainly never thought about hitting a deer.
This makes me sad, even though I never knew Kevin.
Rest in peace, Kevin.

You have a better chance of getting struck by lightning.
I've been riding for 20+ years and belong to several bike forums - I've never heard of this happening, it's truly a freak accident. The article did not say if he was riding at night, which is far more dangerous, and deer are out more. 90% of motorcycle crashes are related to 1) drinking 2) inexperienced riders. It didn't help that Kevin was riding an older bike with probably less than stellar braking; the new bikes are head and shoulders better performing than even a few years ago.
I don't live my life in fear, that's no way to live. Get out and ride, for every horror story like this there are many more stories of a lifetime of great riding.

As a fellow Med student, it's difficult to describe the hard work, thousands of hours of research and study, and dedication it takes to achieve a Science degree, and furthermore how hard it is to get into Medical School. Despite the overwhelming odds, he kept going and made it. Combined with his areas of expertise in numerous areas and his responsibilities as a father, we've lost a truly amazing guy.
We all have to appreciate the time, the family, and the friends we have, even if it's just on the forum.
Peace brother. I wish condolences to your family.
Josh
