We know who's FD doesn't work...but whos DOES?
As all of the sales people/business people know -- Something bad happens and that person tells 10 people, and those 10 people tell 10 people. Something good happens and the person tells 1 person.
Of course we here more about problems than good things, when things are going well, no one comes here to bitch

Okay.
I've had my FD for 4 years, the only real "breakdown" was when a friend broke the tranny. Yeah, original engine. It had its growing pains when I was modding it too quickly but once I left it alone and tuned it it has been trouble free. I don't drive it daily, but when I drive it, I LOVE it!
The big problem with these cars is they are relatively old and have been abused, and most people don't take proper care of them (that includes most of the people on this forum). Too many people are tempted to buy modifications and asthetic upgrades when they haven't even done proper maintenance first.
Just when I'm getting a little bored with the car, I'll drive it on one of those days when the air is cooler than usual and everything is just right... and my adrenaline gushes from the acceleration of a straight line sprint and the car fishtailing at 60 or 70 mph. Then I fall in love with the car all over again! Same thing happens for other reaons, if I've just cleaned and polished it, raced another car, etc.

Mine is working fine so far. *fingers crossed* I honestly haven't had the guts to really let it rip yet, but hell even driving it conservatively it's faster than my old Talon TSi.
I believe the previous owner took really good care of it, let it warm up and cool down properly and so far I've been doing the same... I love this car and I want it to last forever damn it.

My 7 has been cutting thru daily traffic, and beating down the occassional challenger for almost 2 years now.
Thats including a all out CannonBall Run from Miami to Seattle, 4200 miles with out a single hitch.
Put 1k in reliability mods when purchased. Outside of that the only mechanical problem has been a bad alternator.
61k miles
I don't care how many engines/turbo's/tranny's etc....etc.. I go through...Im taking this baby to the grave.
In fact, I think I'm gonna park it over my plot so it can leak oil on me.... Mmmmm wankel juice

My 93 at 83K is running great as usual, no complaints. There is a lot to be said about being an original owner and maintaining it well. Driving it aggressively, not running the **** out of it helps too.
My 93 with over 86k on it runs great. Mods include a dp put in by the prior owner, a K&N Filtercharger (not really a mod), a Cusco front strut tower brace, SpeedBleeders, and the fan mod. Also installed are boost, A/F meter, water temp, and fuel pressure gauges. Boost is a consistent 12-8-11 when the car is warm.

Running great, no problems....life is good. I have put over 10K miles on with zero dollars spent that I didn't want to. The downpipe installation cured the only problem I had when I bought the car. I STILL say a properly maintained and only lightly modded FD will go well over 100K miles easily.....time will tell.
This October will be six years I've owned my FD, & yes, it's been a heartbreaker mny a time. I'm on my third engine now, last one installed 16mos. ago & running strong. I thought I loved it before, but I just installed my XS T04E kit & now it's REALLY fun to drive. For all of you out there who are thinking about replacing your turbos with stockers or even hi-flow twins, don't bother. Lag is not an issue. Of course you'll need to upgrade the fuel system & ECU, but it's worth it. Trust me.
Bought mine new in '93. I've got 37k miles and I've never been towed. I always heard other owners complaining during service calls, but mine has been an absolute gem.
Every year for the last few I try to replace it with a new car, i.e. Viper, Boxster S, Z06, Carerra. The only cars I've driven which were as fast, and fun to drive, AND could conceivably be a daily driver, were the Z06 and the Carerra C4S. But the Z06 just doesn't do it for me and the C4S is $82k! So for the time being, I'm teaking and tuning my formerly all original RX, and we'll see how it goes.

I am very happy with my FD!
It did inhale an exhuast bolt when the down pipe was being removed (LONG STORY) but even then I managed to beat an R32 GTR with no compression on the rear rotor!
It was sad to have the motor wrecked because it had literally been thrashed. It had 100k on it exactly when it let go and had about 40-50 track races (mostly in Japan) under it's belt.
I picked up a '97 motor and wired it up with an EMS ECU and it's been running strong ever since. Since then I've beaten an S15 Sylvia, S14 200sx 01 WRX STi R33 Skyline GTR and countless domestics. I've lapped an s2000 within 10 laps when dead stock. - yeah I'm happy

Well, like I think everyone stated, do your mods correctly and you'll be fine, mixing things around or doing things out of sequence and POOF or listening to idiots that say you don't need an ecu for this stage of mods and again POOF leading to the rx-7 sucks and rotarys aren't reliable.
Here's proof they are...mine for the past 4 years I've been at 296 to now 334 RWHP...running strong as evident by the great mountain run we had in the North Georgia mountains. Let me restate that for all the non-believers...296 plus rwhp for over 4 years. Do your mods right and you wouldn't crap out your engines. 14 psi, no IC, no ecu, go ahead and listen that guy down the road who "knows" cars, mustangs more than likely or even worse, supras with their known great fuel maps running 14 with no problems, says turn up the boost it can handle it since mine does, and POOF.

Mine ran great for over a year, engine went south on me(suspect neglect by P.O.) anyway, new engine going in this weeknd, will be running great again. I ove the car no matter how much it costs me. in fact besides the engine nothing ever went wrong on the car, nothing broke, it never didn't start. Only thing out of normal maintenace I replaced was a water thermosensor.
Had my '94 Touring Automatic since January 5, 2002. 10K miles since I bought it.
Needed Turbos, put in a set of used and added an HKS downpipe. (boost is now 12-10-12 even in 80 degree heat). Coolant leak finally traced to unclamped heater hose between firewall and intake. Gauges are only other mod (A/F--Digital Coolant temp--Boost/Vac). (Installed a K&N setup--didn't like it much replaced OEM cool air box).
I run the hell out of the car-- 40-70 times: 3.6 (running start) & 4.2 (stomp pedal, start stopwatch)--40-60 times: 2.8-3.0 --- 0-60 times 4.6 (brake torqued to 2K)-5.1(stomp and run).
Only potential problem is higher than normal running temps in town and at idle (80 degree weather). Added a fan mod that lets me turn on the radiator fans at will.
Change oil and filter religiously at 2K. Never put her up hot.
So far so good.
