Water temp gauge temperature range

Quick question:

I'm putting in an autometer water temp gauge (withhold any feelings about autometer gauges you may have plz ) and was just wondering if I should get the one with a range of 140°-280°F or the one with a range of 120°-240°F - from what I've read I'd want to stop driving my car if I hit 240, but it seems like the gauge that reads to 280 would still be a good idea. I don't really know - thoughts?

280. You want to know if your water temp goes over 240.

I just got the autometer 3337 electric temp...going to install it on the thermostat housing. It goes to 250F.

Don't get the mechanical one... the freakn sensor is HUGE at 1/2" NTP fitting.

ive been running the cf autometer that reads up to 250f for the past 3 years. works fine for me i never get past 230, but i do tend to get nervous because im running out of gauge room. works good and its pretty acurate. (reads a couple degrees hotter, but that may be because its tapped at the thermo housing)

Thanks for the tip, in my idiocy I was looking at the mechanical gauges which had the two temp ranges, the electric one is like the one you have and only comes in one temp range, up to 250F so that decides it.

You do realize a Greddy 52mm water temp gauge is $100, right?

Yeah I realize, I'm trying to match an existing auto meter boost gauge that I have in my car already, so if I get a different style water temp I'd have to replace the boost gauge also or it would just look wrong. I may end up replacing the boost gauge and going with both Defi D Gauges, although I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the boost sweep from 0-35 psi, I like the autometer that sweeps from 0-20 as the boost area I'm in (just stock 10pis) is easier to see.

Sounds like a win-win to me. Take a look at VDO if you are worried about the cost.
