wastegate porting question

I am about to put on a straight through exahaust, DP, MP, and cat back. This is when I should port the wastegate correct? Just go to down with a dremel and some carbide bits? Anything I should or should not be doing? Thanks

Stock wastegate orifice on the left, "ported" wastegate orifice on the right.

I thought the same at first but, though you will notice in the exhaust manifold that the turbos bolt to there is a balance pipe between each exhaust runner, this means only 1 wastegate is needed! If the balance pipe wasn't there then the sec turbo would be uncontrolled. Making sence?

cheers

Has the ported wastegate been fitted with a larger wastegate flap? Or is it still the stock one

cheers

Stock. Just far newer and cleaner than the one on the left.

If you notice, the exhaust flow from both turbos are directed towards the wastegate....

If you notice, exhaust from both turbos are directed towards each other, then make a 90 degree turn. Thus beginning their journey in holy matrimony towards the wastegate

I think you mean their 90-degree journey into the downpipe?

The wastegate vents exhaust from the front turbo manifold only (shown in the picture I posted) into the center chamber of the turbo manifold and out into the downpipe. However, I believe that the exhaust manifold is connected internally from side to side, so exhaust from the rear housing can "cross over" to the front turbo manifold, and take the path of least resistance out through the open wastegate into the exhaust. It's been awhile since I've played with any of these parts.

You all have been a big help so far. But...do I port the wastegate and get the ECU or one or the other? Both wouldn't hurt now would it?

SInce you are opening up your exhaust so much, yes you SHOULD get an ECU.

ECU for sure. Porting the wastegate may or may not be needed. I didn't need it on my car. If you already have the exhaust system (manifold and turbos) out go ahead and port it. I have downpipe, midpipe, HKS Superdragger cat back, and didn't need to port it. I have the Power FC and recommend it because it fixes so many other quirks the car has. If your A/C switches (fan and/or thermoswitch) are getting resistive the PFC may not operate the A/C properly. Replacing or cleaning one or both switches will fix this.

The need to port the wastegate depends on the boost level you're running and whether or not you're non-sequential. Non-sequential cars with open exhaust have a tendency to boost creep at 14+ psi. If you're still sequential, I wouldn't worry about it. It's one of those things you might do if you already have the turbos out and disassembled.

Yeah, I think im gonna go with the PowerFC for sure, it sounds like that's the best one. I don't have the AC there, so that won't be a problem. I think i might as well port it anyway, cuz I'm looking to run about 15psi on the sequentials. Thanks again
