Wastegate porting - difference in sound noticable?!

Hi everyone,

From what I've read, it's the external wastegates often on single turbo conversions that give the loud and to me, slightly metallic sound. Quite a different and unique sound to normal anyway.

I was just wondering if porting the wastegate on the stock twins makes any difference in noise at all?! I've looked everywhere and cant find an answer to this!

I noticed a diference in my sound but I think thats because I did not do the greatest port job. I didnt smooth it out as much as I probably should have.

Yeah mine changed. It's a deeper sound with the port which is even louder now with the midpipe.

if you think about it...there isnt any reason it should sound different. all its doing is opening up the wastegate passage a little bit.

and i wish it wasnt so expensive. i was quoted 650 to get mine done. i would tackle it myself but i am fearful of screwing something up. so i guess im stuck once again

I did. The air is flowing through a hole of a significantly different diameter so why wouldn't it sound different? Theoretical hand waving aside, even my girlfriend who knows nothing about cars commented on the changed tone when I ported my WG.

hm. mine changed when i ported my twins.
and isnt it logical that it would change(and get louder)
as i see it,the turbo muffles the engine sound quite a bit, and the exhaust that is exiting the wastegate hasnt gone through the turbine, so what is coming out there is raw unnmuffeled wankel exhaustnote . and when you port your wastegate, more exhaust is able to be wented before the turbine,ergo=louder/different note.
add a boostupp and the difference is wery noticeble

correct me if im wrong
