Warm up time

I have noticed that when I let my FD warm up for 3.5 to 5 minutes, it runs much smoother subsequently and the gears engage really easy with no grinding. If I do it for less time, the car does not feel as composed and the gears are harder to engage.

So how long do you guys warm the car up in the morning and have you noticed any difference in the time required ?

I believe the cars ecu puts it in "limp mode" untill it reaches 180F to protect itself. It usually takes about 5 minutes to do at idle, depending on outside temps.

Yes as the car warms up you can see it changes settings, but my point is that it seems to "warm" up better if you give it more idle time

Even with the PFC, these cars are a pain in the *** to drive cold, IMO. I let my car warm-up for about five minutes before driving when I can. If I don't have time, I just give it 30 seconds and drive more gently until the car is warmed up.

rynberg, i'm with ya on that one. if i don't have time. i give it 30 seconds to a minute and just baby it. luckilly, the speed limit most place i'm leaving from is like 25mph. if you do that in 4th or 5th, the car barely knows its moving

There was an article I found a while back. It stated that it takes about 30 seconds to get oil cycled through most engines. It also stated that it's best to warm up the car while driving (after the 30-45 second oil cycle time), not idling.

I start the car and wait for the idle to settle down (about a minute), then drive easy until I get to 180F. After that, it's whatever I feel like doing.

I give it about 30 seconds to a minute. Then just keep it below 3k rpms and no boost until it's 80 deg C on the pfc.

yup, im with you guys

recently, since the weather is pretty damn nice, i just warm up the car for like a minute or til my temp reaches like 95-100f and i drive easy, considering my job is only 2 miles away, by the time i get there, its already like 190-200f.. so i have no time to play..

but i do feel the car running smooth after about 5 minutes of warming up.

I usually let it warm up 5 minutes... until the temp gauge reaches its normal position. Then I'll drive it for a few minutes and stay out of boost. Then I'll start boosting it a bit then I'll start ripping some runs off. Maybe I'm way too ****-retentive, but I don't plan on changing this. I just like to know the car is nice and warm before I drive it; this is a 2nd car so when I drive it, I'm usually not in a rush to go anywhere so I can wait the 5 minutes. Otherwise, I'd say 30 seconds and don't boost it until it's warm... that's what I do with my SRT-4, that's my daily driver.

I let the car idle for about 30 seconds, and then go. I keep it under 3k for the first couple of minutes, and under 4500 until it is pretty warm. No boost until it is fully warmed up.

Sitting for more than a minute when you start the car is a waste of gas and time. The car will warm up just fine while you drive it. Just take it easy until its warm.
