If you have a serious vacuum leak then your idle should fluctuate and hang a bit high(over1K) when you come to a stop. Then it'll usually drop to normal (approx750) "very" slowly. Check the hose that goes to your gauge as that might be pinched or have a small hole in it.

yeah your idle shoudl be fucked it you haev vacuum leak, mine had a leal on lower intake manifold, idle about 1200 rpm all teh time, and had no power. Bitch to fix too.

good luck locating it. You can spray some starter fluid or WD40 around all the intake plumbing and see where it leaks, it will cause engine to stumble a bit when it gets sucked in.

ciao

oh......and KZ1 and Mach2, my idle doesnt fluctuate around a lot, but it does sometimes go to 1k when i get to a stop light and then make its way down to 750. i was always told that this was normal though.
please advise if its not......

its a BRAND NEW apexi mechanical gauge with new hose that came with it. my boost numbers seem pretty dead on and it reads at 0 with the engine off...

ill try out a different hose though and just watch what it says without taking a line through the firewall hole.

thanks

The primary turbo inlet gasket and the vacumn tank itself (below the alternator) were both leaking on mine. Idle got higher as the problem got worse.

Any other place to look guys?

I'm haveing the exact problems you guys are mentioning. The idle stuff and my vac is only about 14-15 inHG at idle on a non ported engine.
