V mount for stock twins
hi
does anyone know of a company that make a v mount set up for the radiator and intercooler that use the stock twin turbos setup and maybe a manifold that goes with it too ? i seen different company that are over sea that have the set up but i'm looking to get something that is in the states. i had a really bad experience with selling and buying part that are over seas.
thanks

Too bad the HKS design is super old and def. not one of the better ones on the market (which is why I try and steer my customers away from it).
The KS kit is readily available, VERY nice, and I can beat any advertised price on it. And of course, there's the kit we're on the verge of introducing too
Thanks!

But Ramy, the HKS is the MEANEST looking one...HAHA! The BEST looking VMIC IMHO for the twins goes to Revolution Tune.
www.revo-tune.jp
That's if you're ordering from the land of awesomeness JDM cool parts, but if you're going to be buying from our great states, I'd either wait for Ramy and friends to be done with their kit (should be great), or get one from Jason at RX7store.net.
Either kit should be a bit of install. I have not met anyone with an EASY vmount install. They all take a while to get running. You have to look into ease of install also. We have a write up on the KS unit, which is a good kit also, but doesn't offer a compression elbow.

Ramy, have you ever sold the V-mount offered by Revo Tune (Revolution Motorsports)? I've only seen pix of it, and it looks oh-so sexy. everything is nice, and it's a complete kit, and everything is polished (they even use shiney bolts and stuff).
I haven't heard of anyone stateside running it, so no actual numbers. Just curious

The HKS has one of the best intercooler endtank designs out there as far as v-mounts go, none of this 90-degree harsh angle stuff. I only have 2 qualms with this HKS setup. A) the radiator fans hang too low...not a huge deal, you just have to really watch where you are going or find some thinner fans...and B) their isn't good enough ducting to the intercooler. One other good thing though, you can use your normal koyo/fluidyne radiator, so if you F yours up somehow you don't have to seek out another extremely expensive custom one.

One more...the HKS kit comes w/ that funky HKS version of the OEM elbow; it is NOT compatible with the THOUSANDS of times more popular Greddy elbow. So you'd need fab work to mate it up to a Greddy elbow. And should something happen to the HKS elbow, good luck getting a replacement, cuz HKS refuses to sell them solo...

NO ONE has the Revo Tune unit. It's too expensive, because it's the most complete.
About the HKS vmic, you don't really NEED ducts with vmount anyway. I don't run one on my RE-X vmic and it does just fine. I have the ducts, just too lazy to install them.
Fan sitting low is because your car is low! HAHA! I have that problem too, but we can just raise ours a little bit. Low at stock height anyway.

While end tanks are certainly an important part of the IC design, IMO, that IC in it of itself isn't the best size/design/thickness. Moreover, you don't keep A/C with it and it uses generic radiators. The additional cooling benefit you get from V-mounts is by using multi-pass radiators; reusing your stocker or a single-pass unit would be a waste. Plus, thats far from being a 100% bolt-on kit.

Also, they sell a kit where A/C and PS can be retained (might need a few custom hoses since they Japanese kits use R12...even my old HKS fmic a/c lines didn't work). In my case, I wanted to remove them so, I did...but technically A/C can remain in place with this intercooler setup. Also, the design of the HKS elbow is a better design than the Greddy elbow. It, like the end tank design, has a smoother flowing/larger radius bend going into the throttle body...don't really care what is more popular.
I'm not trying to argue or say the HKS kit is the absolute best kit... cause its not...I just think it is better than 90% of what is available. I know the Revo Tune is nicer and your's will probably be better as well (if I could have waited for it, there is a good chance I would have). One way or another I will always have a mental block towards the "dead end" end-tank design. One of my favorite custom kits I have seen was atihun (sp?)...used the blitz fmic core (smooth flowing end tanks) and had it beautifully ducted.

Actually A LOT OF RACERS (in japan of course) use the HKS vmic on the track. As mentioned there is a kit that includes hardlines for the a/c to be retained. I too agree the HKS elbow is a lot nicer looking than the greddy and doesn't have "HKS" labeled on it, so it's a much cleaner look.
However, since Ramy and friends are going to be releasing their vmic it is well worth the wait. I know he's been researching the other kits on the market and taking nothing but the good things and inputing them into his design. Not only that, it probably will be the BEST vmic alongside the Revotune unit, since it will probably be just as COMPLETE.
That's the problem with vmic here in the states. Most of them are race only, since they remove a/c, makes you relocate the battery to the trunk, or made ONLY for single turbos (Peak Boost VMIC).

0110-M-P, you make some good points. Thanks for sharing Just my $0.02 on something before I forget...if you're worried about the fans (and I think we all should be) I'd strongly suggest running the undertray w/ custom ducting/vents to protect the fans while helping w/ cooling.
TRISPEEDFD3S, that's funny...I'd *prefer* if the elbow said HKS on it! haha. Re: the options available, ours will have a better and upgraded power steering cooler, retain A/C (if you choose to), and have options for a smaller core to work w/ a custom intake & mini battery, or a massive core requiring a battery relocation. So we're really lookin to go "all out" not just in performance, but in accommodating various setups & preferences.

Trispeed,
You are correct, we have been doing a lot of research and we finally have the radiator design complete. We are just working on getting the angle how we want it.
Our kit will come with ducting for the stock bumper and a splitter to direct air to the IC and radiator. Also since we realize some people will be using this on a race car we will be making the A/C relocation and PS loop line replacement cooler optional extras. We realized no other kits on the market really offered a complete package with out compromises, for example the KS kit utilizes the stock PS cooling loop, that must be zip tied in place. We did away with the cooling loop all together and added a tube and fin type cooler which is smaller bolts into place.
Regards,
Dan

A forum member by the name kinetik_fd3s and his brother had a really nice v-mount setup...rage can back me up on that...he's seen it a couple of times in person...Younger brother really gets down with his work...Im not sure if he ever sold it...but it would be nice to see some pics of that if he still does have some lying around somewhere of how he set the intercooler, and radiator up...That setup was really top notch...
