V Mount Intercoolers

Hi guys just recently bought an 2002 type R and have been looking largely into Vmounts.

i need a few things clarified/more info, i really like the look of the HKS vmount but i read somewhere that its ONLY the IC in the package vs others that come with IC, rad, and all the mounting/piping you need, does anyone have a definate answer for me on wether the HKS vmount is just the IC?

Ive also been looking at Rotary Extreme, they've got a great kit for a pretty good price, how good are they? im hoping to support 350-450hp and no more than that, RE have theirs rated at 600hp so it all sounds good but i like to hear it from ppl who have real experience with the use of the products.

As much as id like to i wont go with RE amemiya or knight sports cause they are mega expensive and im not really trying to build a racecar.

So guys, any experiences to share would be much appreciated, i want the HKS one but if it comes only with the IC i think ill go with Rotary Extreme cause they throw in rad and all the other little bits, but id still like to hear from you guys.

Still reading? hahah bit longer than i intended!

Thanks

Go with Rotary Extreme Monster V-mount. You wont be dissatisfied. It comes with Radiator/Intercooler and all the piping. Saves you alot of hassel.

As for the HKS, if my memories serves me right. They only come with the IC. Not 100% sure, but if you do a search, that's what it is pointing me.

hks

The hks vmount includes tubes that extend the radiator hose to make it work. You can also use your A/C. So in a nutshell you buy the HKS vmount and everything would bolt right up.

Its pretty big, I believe the AC lines have to be moved a bit, I honestly cant tell you much because I took out my AC before I got the Vmount, which was back in the end of 05'.

Yeah, you may also try the one Jason at RX7Store.net makes, although I am not sure if it works with the ac. He is great about answering pm's so I am sure he could clarify for you.

That rotary extreme kit is reaaaalllllly nice...

yes, its true.. the HKS kit only comes with a large 3row IC and accessories to install, using your existing radiator. ALSO, the HKS kit comes with parts to delete your AC. and that is not optional. you won't be able to use your AC anymore with the HKS kit. the reason i didn't go with the HKS kit personally aside from the AC issue, you also need to relocate the whole fuse box next to the battery to accomodate for the HKS elbow and IC piping design.

if that's your price range, rotary extreme and rx7store vmount are both some good options. but i gotta say, i helped my friend installed a rotary extreme vmount, and it was a pain in the *** compare to the knightsports one. JDM kits makes everything a perfect fit. not only its clean and looks nice, they make it instally friendly for anyone to do it at home with simple auto tools.

remember you pay for what you get. the craftsmanship of knightsports, RE-Amemiya, Revolution, and other japanese tuner v-mounts are superb. if you can shell out another 1k for the kit, you won't regret it one bit.

thanks for all the replys guys

supernaut i have pictures up in the intro section under "freshly imported", its only type R not spirit R though

rx7link - you make valid point about paying for what you get and now im considering the REamem one cause on nengun.com its come down in price to 3300USD which is only 600 more than the rotary extreme one...

is the REamem the one you got pictured there? looks damn clean! by the looks of that one you dont need the greddy elbow either... it doesnt mention on nengun.com if the mini battery comes with the kit either so i take it i need to grab me one of them then.

so many choices!!!! argh!!! lol

thanks guys

Purchased directly from Rotary Extreme, here's my new Rotary Extreme monster Vmount (new design version) during motor build...the new IC design now has "curved' end tanks compared to the previous hard-edged design. However, please note the newer version had required some modifications for fitment or issues...the provided (1) couplers were so-so quality, so we changed out some, (2) 90 degree silicone IC coupler + radiator hoses were not long enough and (3) this kit does not allow the R1 strut bar, unfortunately...maybe possible with some intense "rubbing against pipe + coupler. I was one of the first adopters of this redesigned kit and now seeing some slight affects along the way. Temp-wise, it's doing superb according to Ihor @ IR Performance. Perhaps he can chime in on his thoughts on the install/quallity and cooling efficiency. Just sharing feedback. Oh! I was able to retain my AC.

But really though, the couplers isn't a big deal and I was kinda' in the market for an aftermarket strut bar, anways. Overall, not bad since VMIC generally aren't always direct and easy fitment for install.

Here are pics after the install. Pardon the fingerprints on the new IC piping.

eek love the revo one but its a bit pricey! 5g USD is outta my league, ill settle for a REamem one at 3.3g or the RExtreme one from the 2.8g i think it was, well once i work out wether i go REamem or Rextreme that is

FDzero - are you gettin the rubbing maybe cuz you got a single turbo and the piping is diff? like if it still bent round toward the alt would the strut bar still fit down? your everything is so shiny

hmm choices choices, ok quick poll, RE amemiya vs Rotary extreme monster (for twins), i could go either way but i wanna put an end to this! lol so it would be awesome if you guys threw out your pros and cons of each and your prefered choice (money is no concern)

thanks guys

Although I am making my own v-mount setup with ideas I've accumulated from here and there (Pics and writeup coming in the future), I like the FAMSpeed "divide cooling system". http://www2u.biglobe.ne.jp/~fam/part...ide/index.html

the one in my pic is knightsports. u can find more pics about it from the link in my signature.

the batterytray i got is from rotary extreme. but i think you can still find Turbojeff or some other ones that make the same style batterytray for the PC680 battery. that battery will pretty much fit any vmount setup including the Re-amemiya

RX7RAGE - ur setup is tight man. nice job on the install

Rotary Extreme make kits for twin or single setups so not sure what went on between the previous and new design stages. I've seen twin setups with bigger clearances, though.

Yah, the ceramic-coated and polished parts brighten up the engine bay some.

rx7link - yer i realised it was knightsport after i looked at your write up and might i add for me that looks scary as hell to do!

i think ive made my choice, Rotary Extreme, because all though id love to run round saying i have an REamemiya v mount, would stretching that extra grand or so reeeealy make a big enough difference? you all seem to agree sayin Rotary Extreme is great so how much greater can the REamem one be?

thanks guys!
