Like the title says I was wondering what size you guys have for a v mount intercooler? I'm looking to do a custom set up on my car and just looking for a starting place.

no not necessarily. just wanted to say that.... do your research ide highly reccomend reading one of the few books barnes and noble carries about designing turbo systems.

 

measure the space where you want it...

do you want a box type intake? keep the battery? smaller battery? no intake? Get the biggest you can fit with the setup you want.

 

I have deemed a medium size as adequate. (Something with at least 450-ish cu in core volume minimum.) Shove it as far towards the left (drivers) side as you can and put a cold air isolation box where the stock box once was--this layout assumes a relocated battery. Make sure the V is well sealed all around and to the front as well.

Many peeps stuff the largest IC in there that they can. While this looks impressive and makes for a nice show car, it isn't always the optimum setup for performance--a lot depends on what you'd like to achieve with the car and/or what IC you might already have on hand.

I have run calculations on this several times and the best efficiency is achieved if you can get coolest possible air into the compressor and preferably at a very slight positive pressure. There is usually more to gain by starting out with cold air than there is with running a huge IC while drawing warm underhood air.
