Using pass side cooler opening for intake??

Has anyone used the passenger side oil cooler opening for a fresh air intake?

Most of you likely have a 2nd oil cooler here, but my car was an AT that is now a manual. Thus I have to decide whether to retro fit the At cooler into the oil cooler setup OR use that location for some much needed fresh air.

I see that any such fresh air tube would have a convoluted path from the cooler opening to any type of turbo inlet. But I think it can be done.

Yeah it works. Below is a shot of a 3" intake being fed from down there. Its a tight squeeze though..

Yes, it can be done but there is not a lot of room if you are using the stock pop-up lights. If you have an aftermarket sleek headlight kit, you'll have more room for real tubing.

It really depends on what kind of intake you are going to use. With a stock airbox, or any other cold air intake box, there really isnt any need to run piping down there.

Thanks for the link Mahjik. I think those guys were :
1. routing behind the headlite and therefore benefit from use of a sleek headlite kit
2. totally sealing the oil cooler opening and running "home depot" ducting up to a filter(s) and turbos.
I'm thinkinng more along the lines of:
1. using piping similar to what we already use on our FD's (like 1Revvin7's)
2. use a cylindrical paper filter in the general area where the AT cooler was, floating in the space rather than sealed to the opening. This would allow debris to fall by the wayside of the filter.
3.Route the tubing out the same direction as the AT cooler lines (UNDER the frame initially) and then straight to turbos (the hard part).

There's lots more room coming under the frame rail than trying to squeeze beteen headlite apparatus and coolant overflow tank.

saw someone do it like this..takes some work but with a little change in the piping I'm sure you could get your idea to work if you relocated the overflow tank.
