Upper Intake Manifold Questions, Part 2

I was planning on having my UIM polished, but after having seen several nice examples of them being powder coated, I'm going to go that route instead.

Question about the blockoff plates on the underside. They look like they're held on by some sort of sealant. During the powder coating process when the UIM is cured/baked, does that effect the sealant where it softens and the blockoff plates fall off?

And since I have to reinstall vacuum hose, what sizes do I need for both the small *and* big nipples (top, upper left)?

I would remove the block off plates prior to powder coating. The small nipples are ~3.5mm, but any quality 4mm hose will work fine. I don't recall the PCV nipple size but I *think* you can squeeze 6mm hose onto it with a little persuasion.

Try to find a JDM UIM. They are cleaner than USDM.

Remove the block off plates and clean all the mating surfaced prior to coating. I prefer to use new oem gaskets over silicone sealant. Most of the nipples on the uim as well as many of the solenoids take 3.5mm hose. Boostcontroller.com has some quality hose in that size as well as many others.

How do you go about removing the block off plates since they're not screwed on but held in place with sealant? Heat gun? Or some sort of solvent to dissolve the sealant?

And after powder coating, to reinstall the blockoff plates, what kind of sealant do you use? (IRPerformance: I don't see any OEM gaskets for the blockoff plates through a parts search online)

Thanks, guys!

They should have had allen bolts holding them. If not then they need something besides whatever sealant is there.

The gaskets are for what was deleted, not the block off plates (but used with the block off plates)

Its probably sealant holding them. Get a thin flat screwdriver or putty knife and tap it between the plate and manifold to pop it off.

Order the Mazda oem gasket for each corresponding component you are removing: air control valve, double throttle, egr, etc.

Forgot I had taken this picture. I got the UIM secondhand as a spare so maybe the previous owner had changed some things? There are bolts (not allen) holding the plates in, and if I'm understanding you guys correct, I'll need gaskets for reinstalling this UIM after I take the old UIM out?
