unlimited ECU question

Is it safe to install the unlimited ecu and bump up the boost when only running a dp, and cat-back?

Are you referring to the Pettit Unlimited ECU?

The Unlimited and Limited are the exact same map. The only difference is fuel cut. Limited as fuel cut at 14.7 PSI where as Unlimited does not.

Bump it to what? You mean above the 13psi or so supported by the ECU.

You will need a wideband to see if your AFRs are still safe. And going much beyond 13 psi on the stock twins is not usually advisable.

oh no no, i'd probably play it real safe, like 11, 12 psi. within the limits of the ecu. I was just wondering if the engine could support it with only those two mods. the dp, and cat-back. I just won't want to change the general appearence of the car. (i.e. the engine bay)

The Pettit will support dp and cat-back just fine to 12 psi. In fact, it will probably be rich. From what I've read, I'm happier keeping my boost at 12 psi with stock twins and fuel system and that is how I ran the Pettit ECU. Even though the Pettit map can handle more than that, I didn't want to push the twins that hard and don't want to run into the limits of my old stock fuel pump. With just dp and cb you may not need it, but I had to use an electronic boost controller to keep my boost in check.

If you want to keep the stock look of the engine bay and yet get a bit more power, you may want to look at adam_c's cheap bastard intake. It looks stock but also looks like it would supply more cool air for the intake.

oh that sounds great. so you're saying I might not need a boost controller if I'm only running the dp, cat-back. that would even help with keeping the stock look inside as well.

Your IC will be your limiting factor. TBH, I wouldn't go over 10 PSI with the stock IC. It's just not that effective for higher boost settings. If you install a Pettit ECU (Limited or Unlimited), I would recommend a boost controller as well.

says the man with over 22 thousand posts. well I'll take your word for it. now would a bigger side mount IC do the trick. because upgrading to a bigger side mount IC would not be in one's view when looking at the engine bay.

I had many plans, but I'm really fighting the urge to keep it relatively stock.

SMIC for the FD is "stock" mount.

Yes, a bigger stock mount will be just fine. Blitz and Greddy both have SMIC's which fit in the stock location and are a little larger than stock. I ran a Blitz for a few years and really like it:

You can usually find them used for a good price. Another good inexpensive alternative (used) would be the PFS SMIC.
