Looking at the different undertray's stock and homemade I'm wondering what to make mine out of. I would rather stay away from aluminum or any type of brittle composite. Looking at PVC and urethane sheets are a little more expensive than I thought. Need a material with impact, abrasion and heat resistance. What kind of material would be best and for a decent price?

When making your own undertray can you just fab up the botom part and then just re-revit or attach some way the upper part of the under tray? Sorry don't know what its called.... All i know is its a weird looking plastic peice on the engine side of the under tray...

and for those of you who made your own do you even need this peice?

I still contend that heavy plastic is the best material....why can't you run the stock tray?

It all depends how the intercooler and radiator are ducted. On the stock setup, the funny thing on the top side of the undertray is a baffle that is important to sealing the flow around the radiator. On most aftermarket setups, I'm sure something similar must be made.

As for the best materials, 1/8" ABS is probably very good. But really any light / stiff / non-brittle sheet material will work. So aluminum, carbon fiber, fiberglass, polyethylene, etc are all good options. Check out the panels and materials used in buildings and walls - perhaps you can find something more affordable there.

some places will even cnc the abs plastic if you send them a cad drawing

Stock tray was cut for a FMIC, I'm running a SMIC. Plus I would rather have a tray that covers the entire portion of the under side. Less mess to remove. I actually have a 99 spec on order but I don't know if I will use it.
