Unbolted the turbos, now what?

Ive been trying to change out my exhaust housing with a newer one, and Ive unbolted everything from the secondary turbo. Its free and clear from the other. Now Im having difficulty pulling it apart. How can I seperate the housings and what should I be careful with? Thanks

This seems really obvious, but try sliding something really flat (putty knife, or very thin knife for example) and just start prying, until you can get a screwdriver in between the two.

If it's really stuck on, hit it a few times with a hammer to try to loosen before attempting to pry.

Also, spray some liquid wrench, or wd-40 on there to try to loosen it up a bit.

Thanks buddy, Only reason that Im asking is that its really stuck on and was wondering of there was any retainer spring holding it in or something. But its pretty stuck on(ive been hitting it with a mallet). Thanks again.

seriously, was there any point to saying that? He asked for help, obviously wanting to do it himself. if he did this much Im sure he can finish the rest.

Soak it with lubricant, and hit it with a hammer. That easy. Be sure to make index marks on the turbo cartridge before you pull it appart.
I have taken three turbos apart and they were all different in their degree of dificulty removing the turbo from the manifold, but generally a tap with a hammer is the easiest method.

badapex: use a lot of lubrication... then slowly use a knife or a cutter to pass thru the gasket. and then hopefully with a screwdriver you can push it apart.

Everyone seems to have the same strategy. Nothing holding it on but the obvious, good luck man.

You're having trouble removing the cartridge from the exhaust housing, right? One of mine took a little persuasion to get it off of the housing. Use a soft face mallet (rubber or a "dead blow"(?))
Position the exhaust housing in a vise so that it will be held firmly with out screwing anything up, and then just carefully work your way around the compressor housing with the mallet.

If you still have the pre-cat, place it back on with at least 3 studs(tight) and use the pre cat for leverage by pulling/wiggling on it from the bottom. They might come of then?. Just be carefull NOT to break the studs!! Good Luck.
