Uh oh problems...

Ok, so went out drifting yesterday. Car ran fine all day till about 6-7 pm.

The rx7 has these symptoms:

Car is shaking pretty badly, Idle drops down to about 500 and keeps bouncing and the car won't stay running. Extremely vibrations( like a muscle car) and the car is drivable, however giving it gas under load the boost gauge goes up to the usual, however the car doesn't have any pickup.

Mods done to the car is PFC commander, Tuned by Banzai, Apexi noir exhaust, and the motor has 49,000 miles on it.

The car is spitting gas, aka black smoke.

Is this a broken seal? or is it something else? I'm thinking Ignition, or boost leak.

Just wanting to get people's input and thoughts. I looked at a video of a blown seal and I couldn't even tell except the exhaust popping.

any input would help. I attempted to search the forums, is there a Blow rotor forum? heh

Check map sensor, if it is still hooked up it is likely time for a new engine.

Now the interesting thing.. before it all happened.. I forgot to mention that out of the exhaust it blew a perfect cartoon smoke ring.. I was staring at it as it floated past my driver's window... ergh..

If you dont have a comp tester you can crank the engine with the spark plugs removed and listen to and feel the pulses, you will hear and feel a big difference between the two rotors if you have lost a seal, just do one at a time and pull the fuse for the fuel pump. the map sensor is near the firewall on the drivers side, its a small black sensor with a bracket and a vacuum hose going to it. Here is a pic that mahjik posted in a different thread:

Ok, So I went out to take a look! BAH!

The previous owner tapped the boost gauge I think into the vacuum line. But Now here is the interesting part...

THE MAP sensor is breathing just free air! There is no T tap, there is this vacuum line that ends right about the bottom of the MAP sensor and he has this huge brass fitting thing that is connected to the boost gauge line.

Is there any reason why he would have disconnected the map? Does the PFC take care of any of the map sensor so he doesn't need it hooked up? the electronic's plug is plugged into the map and the map is there.. but it's breathing in free air... argh...

I'm going to get that hooked back up tommorow.

map sensor hose runs along the firewall on the driver side. should be connected to a module that says boost sensor or something like that.hose goes to your TB. unlikely the problem.

What do you mean the map is breathing free air? Is the vacuum line for it not connected?

The MAP sensor has to connect to a vacuum/boost source otherwise the PFC will not know what pressure cells to be in.

How long ago has it been since the car was tuned? 3-4 years?

I got the car July of 2007. It's been sitting around because I'm doing other repairs.

Yeah, the kid did not connect the MAP sensor to any vacuum line.

Banzai Racing-
You might remember this RX-7. It came from Ohio and it's pretty beat up. The Paint was fading, awfully, there was a primer front, and the car was in extremely poor condition. The color was black, Door handles were broken on it, and the interior was black.

Let me know

Jack

Not ringing any bells. The only black car I can remember with super low miles that was in terrible shape was a 94 that belonged to a customer in IN. Sounds like it has been through a few hands since we have seen it. Certainly been a number of years (3-4) and if it is the car I am thinking of it was bone stock when we tuned it.

BINGO!!! You did get the car. Yeah the car still has super low miles. It's a 1994. And Yes it is in TERRIBLE shape. I am working on fixing it still.. There were sooo many cosmetic issues, the car had so many random problems that I'm fixing still...

But yeah it's a 1994 Touring edition and it's bone stock except it has a PFC commander. The guy I bought it off of lived in ohio... he might have moved from Indiana.

Do you remember anything about the car any issues?

BY the Way, Rehooked up the MAP sensor today. Car runs good now! thanks guys..

Our customer sold it shortly after we got it running, the car had been delivered to us from TX, where he had bought it. I remember it having some sort of an intermitent problem where the car just would not start, then for no reason at all would fire up. Something along those lines.

Good to hear you found the hose.
