I dont know tons about about the stock twin turbo setup on FD's, but i know a little. So please help me out. I know people swap out their twin turbo setup for a single turbo or even just add after market turbo's to keep the Twin turbo setup in their FD's. I like the idea of having a twin turbo setup, because everyone and their aunts have single turbos on their cars. What i was wondering, if at all even possible. Can you swap out the stock turbos with after market ones and still keep the sequential turbo setup by using one small turbo and one slightly larger? Or is it just a waste of my time and money to try and do this? Any info on this would be great. Thanks in advance.

 

The best option is to go with BNR Stage 3 turbos. It allows you to keep the sequential system but put out a reliable 400+ HP.

 

Reliable and FD...do we need to go over this again? Hehe. However I have to agree with VegasFD on the BNR's being the best option. The only other option really is to get the 99'spec turbos but that won't be as efficient as the BNR's.

 

Other than the BNRs, which are upgraded stock twins, no, not without a ton of money and time. You need to do some research on how the sequential system works; it's not just putting two different size turbos together on the same manifold...

 

hey, thanks for the info. That setup sounds like it puts out plenty of power for me. Im only looking for about 300-350 FWHP to help keep SOME reliability and still be able to have some fun. Could you help point me in the right direction on where the best place to purchase the BNR's. Once again, thanks in advance.

If you are looking at 300-350 rwhp (a pretty huge range!), stick with the stock twins until you melt them, then upgrade to the BNRs. I am one of the few running the BNRs sequentially.

Hey Rynberg, I took a look at what u got under the hood. Seems like your happy with your BNR sequential setup. I was just wondering on what kind of numbers your putting down and on how much boost?

 

Flywheel HP = BHP. Front Wheel HP = FWHP. Just an FYI.

stock twins are good for 350RWHP(Rear Wheel HP) on stock ports so I'd see no need to upgrade if you only want 350 BHP.

 

Appreciate all the helpful info. Main reason i was asking if this would work is for in the future when the stock turbos do eventually give out. I rather replace them with something better than stock to be able to have the potential for MORE while keeping the sequential setup. Well you guys answered all of my questions for now. So what HP could be reached if the motor has a large street port with stock turbos?

 

Too many variables. You can only make as much horsepower as your weakest link will let you. Till it blows/breaks or whatever the case may be. Sure you will gain some more HP with a large street port, but you still have STOCK turbos. So i guess if your just wondering on what kind of power you can get, your not going to get to much more than 350RWHP using stock turbos. But if your looking to get some serious power gains, your not going to because those turbos are holding your engine back.

 

I'm just trying to figure out what HP to shoot for. I had a T2 street ported with an upgraded BNR turbo pushing close to 300. I now have an FD and have not been impressed with the power. It's currently getting street ported. It had a bad seal, hopefully that is why it did not impress me.

 

you could go with the 99 spec turbos from rx7.com. these will get you to your power goals and remain stock operation.
