Turn signal trouble

Hey guys. I'm newer to the forums and just bought a 1993 FD3S; proud new owner. My big problem with the car is all turn signals don't work. Ive searched the forum countless times but still am stuck. Hoping someone has some insight. Here is what I have tested thus far.

I have checked all the fuses, inside the engine bay and the drivers side kick panel. All off them good.

I have loosened the panel and wiggled the wires behind the box to ensure it was nota loose pin

I have swapped CPU's with another 7 that works.

Ive checked the hazards and swapped it with another that works, still no fix

Ive looked at the bulbs and they pass visual inspection. ( can all 4 really be burned...)

When I use the turn signal I get the normal clicking sound. If I press the hazards the pace of the click increases. If I don't have the signals on and press the hazards I get no noise from the CPU. Also the lights in the gauge cluster are not blinking/ lighting up.

My only thoughts remain is if something is being grounded out, but without a wiring schematic I'm kinda lost. Any help would be much appreciated.

thank you,
jason

Yes. Headlights, break lights and parking lights all work. The only non functioning lights are the signals themselves. Both front, rear and hazards.

Dash lights all are illuminated minus the turn signal indicators, which also don't light up.

The turn signals have a relay in the engine bay I believe, try checking that

Use a test light to figure out if you are getting power to the sockets .

it seems to be an electrical problem though and not somuch the hardware. but its strange

that its shorted without it taking the fuse , double check all the fuses

and download the Factory Service Manual for the FD , use that to locate where your problem may be rooting from

Yea I thought so too. I got the manual here

http://www.rotaryheads.com/PDF/3rd_g...ng_Diagram.pdf

Going to test the relays and for open circuits this weekend. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the help.

Nothing. I'm lost... I'm getting power to the bulbs I believe. The 99 spec blinker housing have the parking lights in there as well and those are working. just the blinkers aren't working... Frustrating.

I didn't see a specific relay. Just some fuses 60 amp and 120 amp fuzes. A few regular fuses inside the car near the CPU. All passed a continuity test.

Is there a specific relay I didn't see? I'm starting to wonder if it has to do with the difference between the 93 turn signals and the converted 99 spec that I bought the car with; is that just a plug and play conversion? Even if so I doubt it would cause the taillight directionals not to work.

Sorry, I meant to say Flasher not relay... hadn't finished my coffee.

Check this thread. It's not about signals not working, but has useful info on the flasher

Did you check the turn signal relay located under the hood in the relay box at the front of the engine bay? It is labeled "TNS". Didn't see in the thread where you had actually checked it.

Wow I totally missed that. I'm really Hoping that's it. I'll check it out and will update you. The online version of the wiring diagram wasn't colored. I really appreciate the help!

Sigh... Not it. Swapped it with the relay to the right of it as they were the same. No blinkers. What I find strange is the Parking lights seem to share the same power source yet I have no blinkers. Anyone know what color wires do what? There is 3 wires in the connector, I believe a green a back and a red ( from memory)

The 99 spec lights are NOT plug and play. You will need the below adapter. Not sure if this will solve your problems though...

Good luck.

Yea the cars harness was cut and spliced. Seems to be done right as the parking light works, just not the signals. Anyone else lol

Thanks to everyone's help I've cracked the case! Ended up being the pink blue wire the goes into the joint box (fuse box near the drivers kick panel). After countless hours of befriending the wiring diagram, I got it down to the wire that follows the hazard fuse to the the CPU. The fuse read 12v on both sides, so my assumption is a pin on the back side is pushed out or not connecting properly. There is barely any room to get behind the JB, even unscrewed. For now I jumped the wire with the fuse still in line.

Blinkers, and hazards now work. Onto better things... Like driving my car to break in the new motor!

Ty guys
