i woudl be much more worried leaving the car unattended while running, more possibility for **** to happen and you not being able to react to it ...

I have a Greddy Turbo Timer that isn't hooked up to my clifford alarm properly, so I have to actually wait inside the car or stand by it until it turns off so I can arm out...I since disconnected it, but I do think it's a good idea to cool down the oil in the lines.

Max, You're crazy for going with those non-parking brake rears Max!

Btw, have you had any problems with the front Al rotors warping or anything, I beleive they're designed for light-braking/lightweight applications so I'm curious to see how they're holding up with your 2800lb FD on the Road Racing course...

Cronos,

Having no parking brake hasn't been much of a problem. Unless you park on a somwhat steep grade, the car isn't going anywhere if you put it in first gear. I haven't had it roll when parked yet.

My front rotors are iron with aluminum hats, just like the vast majority of brakes on race cars of all weights. They are less likely to warp than 1-piece iron rotors.

I'll tell ya something that happened to me twice that was VERY VERY VERY VERY dangerous.

I get out of my car with the timer set on 2 minutes, run in the bank, make a deposit then come back out. Its been about 1.3 minutes so the car is still running, I jump in and take off forgetting to put the key in the ignition. Then in 30 seconds my car dies as I'm driving it down the road and since there is no key in the ignition my steering wheel locked in place so that I cant steer it and I'm going 30mph and could have been going much faster. I was lucky that I wasnt in the middle of a turn. I basically stoped in the middle of the road put the key in and cranked my car. People were piling up behind me wondering what the hell I was doing.

Anyway over the span of about 18 months that happened twice.

Like I said before, I dont believe in them and think they are a waste of money and this is just one more reason not to get one. You might think your going to remember the key but if you get in and out a lot you just hear the car running and go

Didn't it have a safety net attached to the e-brake? Mine shuts off if the e-brake light (signal) goes out.

My wheels locks up whenever the key isn't in the ignition, not after the car turns off. I wonder why yours is different.

BTW Max, what exactly are the hats? ohh yeah, and it's Chronos BTW

I think it's a waste of money. If I ran hard on the way home, I turn on my parking lights, and let the fan run for a minutewhile I idle. If I ran really hard, I'll turn on the AC for added fan support.

it is kinda useless..but i don't have the fan mod done yet. And if the outside temps aren't that hot the fans wont turn on. So i set the timer for like 10 minutes, hit the A/C button and just let the fans run after I turned the engine off. Better than letting it soak.

I'm trying to be educated so please forgive me for what may appear to be a stupid question.

Are you guys saying that since the FD's turbo is water cooled, that we do not need a turbo timer? Does this apply to all cars with turbos or just cars with water cooled turbos?

Finally, I am assuming that the stock turbo on the FD is water cooled, but are upgraded, larger turbos for the FD also water cooled or does it depend on the turbo?

Hopefully someone can give me the right answer. Thanks.

Oops, typo.

2-piece rotors have a center "hat" or "bell" that slides over the lug studs and a separate rotor that bolts to the hat.

Aftermarket singles vary -- some are water cooled and some aren't. Mine is not water cooled (RX6) but I still don't feel compelled to install a turbo timer.

When I bought my '93 it had a turbo timer in it. Now I pretty much only use it to run the car up to temp if I have to move it around the driveway, and to run to the mailbox in the morning while the car warms up (mailbox keys on my keychain..)
