Turbo shaft play

I tore down my engine the other day because of an apex seal failure and i was just looking at the turbos which are supposedly 99spec turbos. i noticed slight grooving on the housing of that turbine shown and slight play in the turbine also... that stamp on the turbo says N3G1 6210... can anyone tell me if those are 99spec turbos? and does the play and grooving mean the turbo is bad? can i rebuild them or something or are they junk? thanks for any info seemed to build boost fine before the apex seal went but had slight fluttering at wot

They most likely have damaged turbine wheels from the failed apex seals, i would pop the hotsides off and check.

nah those turbine wheels are fine...it was just a very small piece of one of the apex seals that blew off and no damage to anything found

I thought the same thing about mine. Looked fine from the outside. Removed exhaust housing and saw the carnage. Worth a look.

Here is some of the damage to the turbine wheels that is caused by a tiny piece of apex seal
