turbo porting.....

so what's the deal with this porting? I recently got a hold of a primary turbo that has the housing towards the intercooler ported. What are the pros cons on this? does the secondary housing have to be match ported?, will the PFC need to be retuned? so many questions...I could'nt find a single thread about this.

Pettit does this on the stock turbo's (calls them Hi-Flow) They don't polish the throat just clean it up and gasket match, so yes there must be some benefit or Pettit wouldn't bother. There seems to be two different sized housing as a friend of mine and I cc'd them and found there was a difference between the two sets of housings I had (numbers slip my mind at the moment). We gasket matched the smaller ones and actually polished the throats. I have yet to mount them but expect to see some increase in performance just on the fact my original ones have a large gap in the precontrol web. I would expect if you increase your boost then your pfc will need to be re tuned, if your using a boost controller and maintain the same boost level I don't see a need. (can't say I'm an RXpert) but I do maintain my own car and it seems to run well)

Thanks for the reply, I'm tuned for low boost right now since I was having issues with the secondary turbo. I'm just not sure if the increase in airflow would warrant having to retune. hopefully I'll get a couple of more opinions/advice.

Following the logic set forth by the deamed RX GURU"s you can increase air flow without problems if you can maintain the stock level of boost. In your case I would have to assume you shouldn't exceed your tuned boost level. If your able to run your PFC at different tune settings for your Low or high boost levels and your not going to exceed either level where does your problem exist ?
