Turbo oil leak? HELP
My 93 touring is currently in the shop getting the downpipe and midpipe with highflow cat installed to fix a bad exhaust leak. Now they tell me that the leak isn't all comming from the exhaust and that its comming from the turbo's. The mechanic is going to look into it further and give me a call back later letting me know what I need to do. Has this happaned to any of you before? What is the procedure for fixing this? Approx. cost? Thanks alot, your help is really appreciated.

Exhaust leak and turbo oil leak are two very different things. The exhaust leak is comprised totally of exhaust gases & you can determine if you have one from the exhaust system by getting under the car and visually inspecting the system. You can also try to "torque" the bolts down to determine if any have vibrated loose.
A turbo oil leak leaks oil into the exhaust, causing the oil to burn, which should be apparent when the exhaust leaves the cb exhuast. This will most likely mean that you'll have to pull the turbos and/or manifold. Perhaps you have a gasket leak?
Maybe the bolt you're using (or the bolt housing) is worn. Perhaps you should try a new bolt. If the housing is stripped, you may have to try to tap it out. Not sure if this is possible. The bolt should not be able to vibrate itself loose if its torqued down.

I get this **** like every four months. There is this stupid F*#!! bolt that keeps unscrewing itself and causing a serious exhaust leak. I have tried locknut several times and it still comes off. Now I'm contemplating WELDING that bitch on! yeah turbos won't be rebuildable after that... But I am determined to make that Fin bolt submit. And yes I have tried to look for reasons on why it keeps happening. I have a couple of theories: vibrations from bad motor mounts, or other things that would cause some kind of vibration.

POS7, I had a exhaust leak, which is what I initinally went in for. While fixing the exhaust leak, the mechanic noticed that I had a oil leak comming from my turbo's. It made sence because I was experiencing a blue-tinted smoke comming from the engine bay as well as the exhaust along with oil remains on my driveway. The mechanic is out now, but tomorrow I'll ask him about the gaskets.

Make sure you know exactly where the oil leak is coming from. It doesn't make sense to pull the turbos if you dont have to. The BOV hose and the stock y-pipe connectors can both leak out some oil, both of which wouldn't require much to fix. sorry, I can't be more specific without mroe details.

When I went under the hood to install my intake a few days ago there was no sign of oil build-up from what I could see. Could a cracked turbo vaccum line be causing the leak? When I hear from the mechanic tomorrow I will post what he tells me.

I'm with POS7 on this one. I had an leak on my car that created a lot of smoke coming from the engine compartment. It would even drip from an unknown spot on to one of the turbo heat shields. I thought it was the turbos or the turbo hoses.
Once I got stuff torn apart, I found that the o-ring between the 2 y-pipe halves was flat and hard. I replaced it with a viton o-ring. Since my DP and Y-pipe was removed, I was able to use a mirror to look inside the turbo housing -- no signs of oil so I have ruled out the turbos. Still putting everything back together since I did some other mods (including a downpipe to reduce backpressure) at the same time.
It was also recommended that I check out my PCV system to make sure it is functioning properly and not overpressuring the system.

The oil return lines unbolt pretty easily from the turbos. They may just need to be tightened. The oil supply looks like a PITA. The oil supply has a nut that connects the hard line from the motor to the twins. That could have been loose as well. If the lines are damaged, I think the lower ones can be replaced without pulling the turbos. The supply line looks like a PITA even with the twins pulled out.

Well the oil line is no longer a big issue. My exhaust leak seems to have blown my exhaust manifold gasket. Now I have to pull the turbos and change that. This just isn't my week.
