Turbo hoses -- remove water pump housing or y-pipe?
Hi All:
I'm in the middle of a complete cooling system overhaul (Mazdacomp radiator, all new hoses from Malloy, FC thermoswitch, t-stat, etc).
I've got the new radiator in and about half of the hoses have been swapped out. The turbo hoses are the ones I'm dreading. It looks like some people replaced them by removing the Y-pipe. Some did it by removing the water pump housing. Some did both (?).
I really don't want to remove the water pump housing if possible. Thoughts?
This job rivals the silicon vacuum hose job in terms of pain in the *** factor, but I have no regrets about doing it. A shop must charge an arm and a leg to do this job!

easy... upper is done by removing the airpump only. lower is handled by removing the intake elbows only. i've checked and changed mine a few times now - experience helps but it is still a PITA!
make sure you have some angle nosed pliers!
(i don't have any, but that'd make the job SO much easier).

Yep, pull the airpump and primary turbo inlet. Upper one isn't that hard, lower can be a pain with the turbos in the car. You may have to cut the old one off to remove it.

Ok, I yanked the y-pipe assembly out and was able to get to the ones at the firewall and the upper turbo hose.
The only ones left are:
Lower turbo hose -- Not even gonna try this until I got some long/curved needle nose pliers
Throttle body hose (long one) -- Can this be removed without taking the rats nest out? Doesn't look like it.
Thanks for the tips!
