I've posted about this before, but haven't gotten any responses. Mazda told me I need to replace my lower turbo coupling. The part is ~$50. Does anybody know if this is possible for me to do alone? Any info would be appreciated.
Thank you
Thank you
sounds like the coupler that is connected to the y-pipe, if so, u can replace this piece with a silicone one for around 20 bux at http://bakerprecision.com/, you'll need the 2 3/4 inch coupler. or u can purchase a home depot version for 3 bux and try to stuff that on there cuz they are only 2 inches in diameter. (somebode on this forum has done this b4)

yea, and technically they say 'coupling.' Here's the exact quote that was added on to a compression test invoice:
"Found minor leakage from lower turbo coupling. Tightened hose clamp. Recommend replacement soon."
Any clue as to what that might mean if not the couplER(which I'm leaning towards)? Also, how would I get to the coupler if I replaced it myself? Does anybody know of an online guide?
Also, where'd you get that diagram? I've been looking for something like that as I'm new to the 7.
Thanks a bunch guys

That diagram is from a scan of the parts microfiche, you can get it at www.mazdaformance.com . You can also download the Factory Service Manual at http://iluvmyrx7.com/ . That rubber coupler is a known weak link with our cars, you can replace the entire Y-Pipe with the Efini Y-Pipe and never worry about it again. The kit is about $250 and you can install it yourself if your a decent mechanic or figure on 3 hours labor at a shop.

ummm sounds good, but frankly I'm a **** poor mechanic, with NO experience. But I really want to learn. Is it something I can do with a little help from some mechanic friends helping every now and then? I want to get this done. Any how to sites would be good.
