If I was living in SF that would be a problem, I live in the 580 area of east bay its pretty flat. Of course sometimes if the hill is steep enough you have to boost a little.

Cuesta grade is on hwy 101 just north of San Luis Obispo. I think it's about a 5 degree incline for 3 miles. My car seems to boost about 2-3psi holding a steady speed in 4th gear. Any small acceleration bumps the boost quite a bit.

Yep, that is exactly why people warm up the cars by turning them on, and letting them idle, and why the fans turn on when your car is just sitting there for a while. You want to have air running through the radiator, to keep the car cool. Shutting the car off, if you are not on boost is fine. The FD is still a car, just like any other.

And shutting off the car, after running the turbos won't automatically kill them. Doing this repeatedly will.

so whats the conclusion? don't invest in a turbo time? and before turning the car off.. drive really easy on it for a min or 2 before you destination,.. then when you do park.. turn it off right away? or let it idle for about 30 secs?

I think a turbo timer's a big waste of money, but other people disagree. Idling the car for 30 seconds won't hurt the car. Neither will driving easy for the last minute or two.

You aren't going to find a nice neat answer. Like everything else in life, you will have to read and think about the info provided and come to your OWN conclusion about how to drive the car.

This is what I do:

Try to stay low on boost when you are within a mile from parking, always cool off for 15 sec though

When you are driving fast, just off the freeway, or accelerating, leave the engine running for about 60-90 sec.

My car is over 90k on its orig motor. I intend to get a least another 30k from it, knock on wood.
