Black7Conv,

Wow! This is an OLD thread you are reviving. The file you attached cannot capture video nor did it play properly. WAV files are typically for audio. Do these codes belong to an FD? I noted your profile name, photo, and description all indicate an FC. The CEL codes can be found in the FD's FSM, Section F, around Pg F-21.

Actually the WAV file does play on my Hackintosh, but the tone is very low-volume. I hear 5 "beeps" consistently repeated. I think post
#34 by Gen2n3 below correctly describes the meaning of the 5 "beeps" repeated 5 times. It's a problem in the Air Bag
System's Diagnostic Module. (No connection to the error sensing and storage system in the PCME.)

Yes, this is a very old thread but this is the only help for my problem..my mistake, i forgot to mention my car's info. I used to have a highly modded fc3c, now i have an FD. Car was working fine, just one day the beeps started..
If you can hear it, there are 5 beeps repeated for 5 times, so i am not sure if it is code #5 or #25 or #50

Black7Conv,

Thanks for clarifying your car's info. Do you have an actual Check Engine Light (CEL)? I vaguely recall that non-US cars lack the CEL. On the other hand, I don't think your problem is in the engine. I suspect your Air Bag system has a fault. Refer to the Body Electrical Troubleshooting Manual (BEM) for more info. Specifically, the chart on Pg S-3 discusses the Diagnostics Module, "If the [Air Bag] warning light is burnt, sounds warning buzzer." Additionally, on Pg S-8, it says this:

Note on BEM Pg S-8

So the audio you captured may indicate the problem is in this system. Did anyone hit your car recently or did your car run into anything? Did you do any work by the steering wheel, crash sensors, or air bags recently?

Does this help?

Gen2n3,
I have a 93 european version fd and I dont have an actual Check Engine Light.
The weather here is not so good so i left the car in the garage for 10 days(had disconnected the battery) and when i went to take it out for a spin, i noticed the beeps, and i recorded them and posted the file here.
Hmm so i might have trouble in the air bag system.. should i try to disconnect the negative battery for 20 secs and then depress the brake pedal and see if the code will sound again? Because i didnt do any work on the car.
oh, thanks for the help!
George

Happy to help!

Do you have an Air Bag warning light? Does it light and flash along with the beeps you hear? You may need to check your battery for proper charge. One of its cells may have died thus resulting in a low voltage output. I encountered such a phenomenon when my FC lost 1 battery cell. It was hard to crank, the voltmeter gauge read unusually low, and also gave me an air bag error. It failed the load test and once a new battery was installed all those problems went away.

Does your local auto parts store have the ability to test car batteries for proper voltage and load tests?

George,
The Air bag warning light is working but it doesnt light and flash along with the beeps. So, as you said, I went to a local auto parts store and checked the battery- I have a slim racing battery- and it was very low in volts. Had power to start the car but it was very very low, around 7... so left the battery there in order to be fully charged, and when all the showing will pass away, i will fit it again in the car, will reset the code and hopefully everything would be ok, since you had encountered such a phenomenon with your FC before.
thanks again!!!

Be aware that once any battery is discharged to that low a voltage it may never recover its original capacity. So you may have to replace it if charging doesn't bring it back to working correctly.

Dave,

Thank you for that additional tip on battery charges!

George,

You are welcome for the advice. I wish you luck with charging the battery. You may want to ask the store to verify the battery after it was charged. I would also like to add that when my FC's battery died, it charged up to 12v. As soon as it was removed from the charger, it rapidly dropped to 10.5v. That's when I knew it was time for a new battery! Since your battery was under charged, the air bag system has a small battery backup. More than likely, it discharged and is causing the warning buzzer to chime. That would be very similar to the symptoms I observed in my FC. Once a new battery is installed then that problem should go away. I'm curious to learn about your progress when the re-charged battery or a new one is installed.

Something else to consider, if your FD sat for 10 days and the battery drained then you may have something causing battery drain. Double check door, glove box, hatch, and overhead light switches for proper engagement. I would also check the rubber stop on your brake pedal. If that rubber stop breaks then it will cause your brake lights to remain on until your battery dies. Further, check any additional electrical accessory that was added to the car such as an aftermarket radio, amplifiers, or alarm.

As a side note, investing in a battery tender, such as Deltran's BatteryTender (www.batterytender.com) or similar product, will prolong a car battery's life with great significance. A tender is different than a charger because it monitors battery voltage levels then slowly charges it when it falls below a specific level. Battery tenders are frequently used on motorcycles, ATVs, classic cars, and exotic cars like Lamborghini & Ferrari. I keep a tender on my FD about 98% of the time. I don't remember when the last time I bought a battery for it!

Regardless, best of luck with your battery charging and please let us know if that warning buzzer returns.

If you have an automatic transmission, also check the separate error codes on the AT

Hello again and sorry for my very late reply but i had lots of family problems..
Finally, went to the shop, they had charged the battery, it was fully recovered and i was able to put it back into the car. Then, i disconnected the negative battery terminal cable for 20 secs, depressed the brake pedal and after that i reconnected the negative battery terminal cable. But, when i turned the key, without starting my car, the warning buzzer was still here.... any ideas? didnt I clear the trouble code properly?

George,

Did you have the battery load tested? Is it the same one or a replacement? Is the battery currently connected to the car? You may need to start the car and let it warm up. During the warm up process, the air bag battery back-up may be charged. Alternately, you could disconnect the Air Bag diagnostic module from the car at connector S-01. It has 2 sections so be sure to disconnect them both.

CAUTION: you may inadvertently discharge the air bag when handling any air bag related component. If the battery was connected to the car then disconnect the negative terminal and step on the brake pedal for 20sec. That should allow the back-up to properly discharge.

Once Connector S-01 is unplugged, place the ignition switch to ON (do not start) and see if the buzzer sounds. Would you get the same indication?

I also recommend that you use the Body Electrical Troubleshooting Manual (BEM) as a guide. Section S of the BEM discusses troubleshooting procedures for the Air Bag system.

Did I already ask if the Air Bag warning light works? Does it illuminate during the car's power-on light test?

George, et al:

I separated our conversation to troubleshoot your buzzer alarm from the How to Read FD Trouble Codes thread because it deserves its own subject line and its content exceeded the scope of the original Trouble Codes thread.

My apologies for not recognizing the need to separate the thread earlier.
