trouble with installing boost gauge?

I have an autometer boost gauge im trying to install...but the gauge will not show my car boosting for some reason.

I have a T fitting vinyl 5/32" vac hose to the two vacuum connectors on the intake manifold. Also tried sitting one connection but it still doesnt show boost, only sits at 16 inHg vacuum.

any ideas?

thanks in advance

ps. the gauge also sits below the 0 mark for boost when it's off. what's up with that?

If you're seeing vac on the boost gauge then I'd imagine it's hooked up fairly OK. I'd take a mityvac or similar, hook it up to the vac line near the intake manifold and see if you can get the gauge to read pressure. That will show if the gauge itself or your vac hose connections are dodgy.

What does your gauge show when your boosting?

Some people bag on autometer gauges for being cheap and poor quality. Apparently it's not uncommon for them to sit near zero rather than on zero when the car is off. It's also not uncommon for them to be innacurate. Best to use something like a mityvac to check the calibration of your boost gauge. Mine reads over slightly, so when the gauge shows 10psi I'm really only producing 9.5psi.

make sure you are pushing the car to see if you're getting boost, you wont just see boost at idle

it's an autometer which means it is a p.o.s. not ragging on you, since i have one myself. as said above, take the car out and drive it to see if you get a boost reading.

get rid of the t fitting u did. it might be the wrong vacuum line. try hooking it up to the surge tank. there is an extra nipple that is capped off with a black cap. see if it reads normal from there.

Hook up your boost gauge here permanently. No need for tee fittings.

The hose to use can be had for under $1.00 at the local auto store - just ask for 1/8" rubber vacuum tubing.
