Transmission Fluid

I was wondering if anyone has experienced real rough gear shifting in their trans. (stock or bebuilt)? I just had mine rebuilt and it was fine for a few months then it became real hard to get into gear! Also I put on a B&M Short Shifter and was wondering if anyone else had problems with short shifters with those transmissions? Would it be a possibility to put ATF in it? Is that good or bad for this particular trans? Maybe an additive to smooth things up? I was wondering if when they rebuilt it they didn't put in the blockers with the synchros? Anyway, if anyone can tell me anything it would be great! From one RX-7 owner to another!

Thanks, -Chris Hunter-

Did you just ask that question? No don't use atf. Try new gear lube than tear it down after you make sure the short shifter is not your problem, your bushing might be bad.

Fluid

Is ATF bad? What do you think about a additive to smoothen things?

I highly recomend NEO lube. It's sold by Mazdatrix. My transmission was never what I would consider rough, but changing the fluid to NEO definately smoothed it out a couple notches (no pun intended).

I use the NEO synthetic in my tranny and diff. It's been great; even in cold weather.

NEO

Disregard the last reply! It says the NEO is recommended for manual transmissions where a low viscosity oil is specified, such as ATF or motor oils, 5/20, 5/30, 10/30, or 10/40. So since your supposed to use 75W-90 in the RX-7 is this stuff fine for it? Would you use it as an additive or simply NEO?

Thanks,

NEO is a company that makes synthetic lubes. They have greases, oil and different gear lubes.

Lots of info at the NEO site
