Tanny question

When you are removing the tranny. Do you have to seperate the flywheel from the pp or can you remove the tranny by leaving the pp and clutch attched to the engine.

you can go either way
by separating the flywheel and pressure plate, you just take off the 6 bolts that hold it onto the flywheel and it comes right off
to separate the tranny itself and leave the pressure plate and clutch on the flywheel, you have to pull out the throwout bearing and it'll come right off

Ok thanks I got it. Another question, I found heat spots on my pressure plate and flywheel, not to bad though. Does this mean I definaltely need to change them or can I get them turned. How do you know if it is time to change the disk.

Turned if the hot spots are not to deep. the machine shop will tell you so after they turn it . The fly wheel should cost about $35 around here.

you just pull the bearing out with a flathead screwdriver, just make sure you "inch" each side out by going around the edge with the driver so your not to bend it. It pulls out towards the transmission (if it were to be in the car) Last night I bent mine while it was on the car and had to drop the tranny, you don't want to bend it on the car (I felt like a total dumbass) Hope I make sense

Since you seem to be in the thick of it, I though perhaps you could offer some advice. Thanks Tired of driving the wifeys SUV PLEASE HELP!!!!

Whats the best way to support the engine while pulling the tranny? will it stay with just the motor mounts?

Is this a really time consuming undertaking compared to other cars?
Someone said it took like 35 hours the first time he did it?

ARe there any special tools that I'll need to do the work that you've been talking about. I think my pilot bearing may need replacing as well.
