Question Tranny grinding noise when accelerating...

Recently when i accelerate it sounds like the gears are grinding together. It sounds bad, and i don't think it's normal. Anyone know what it could be. It seems to do it between 1K - 3500 or around there. It usually doesn't do it in first gear. I just changed my fluid to synthetic in hopes to help out, but it still does it. Im hoping that it's not something too bad. Also since I installed a B&M short shifter i can hear the transmision more, but i think i just forgot to put the pad in the right way. But the grinding noise makes me cringe.

It could be a bad bearing, anyway just take it out and take it apart and see before it has a major failure that will cost more to fix ,plus a tow bill

I had a similar problem...the grinding sound came on around 2-3K rpm's during acceleration for me. Although I also was experiencing lack of boost. It turned out to be that the intake hose had come loose. I may be mistaking, but is it alright to use synthetic oil for the RX7?

yeah, a lot of people use it. an intake hose made the boost problem or the tranny noise? This noise is really bothering me. Im thinking about just buying an ACT street/Strip clutch and a light weight fly wheel, and while the tranny is out find out if it is a bearing or something else.

Peter says DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC OIL..in the tranny. Call him and ask, he will tell you why.

The loose intake hose caused the lack of boost, the sound however may be different from what you're hearing. It did sound pretty bad...like something was grinding...definately noticable. Are you hearing the sound in all gears but first? Yeah...I believe it says right in the owner's manual not to use synthetic oil or any additives.

It does say that as well as with motor oil. But back in 94 synthetic oils were not as advanced as they are now. I think it is one of the bearings, which i am going to change when i replace the clutch and flywheel.

Don't people usually put Neo or Redline in the transmission? Aren't they synthetic? Am I missing something?

When you say bearings, are you referring to the throw out or pilot bearing?

okay, here's a question then, and I hope someone can help me with it. Noise coming from the tranny, in neutral, clutch out, push clutch in, noise goes away. Is that the pilot bearing going bad? A T-O bearing going bad means the opposite I think.

Thanks,

Tim

dont use synthetic in your engine. Synthetic oil does not have the minerals for the rotary engine to burn. It leaves carbon deposits from the **** it cant burn. You did know rotary's burn oil from the engine..

Use Penrite HPR40 (if avail in USA). Its reccomended and used by all rotary workshops in Oz.

Any ideas on my situation? T-o bearing? pilot bearing?
something else I'm not thinking of? Fluid level is fine.

Someone had said something about that before, my car does the same thing when you are in netural and you press the clutch in the noise goes away. I believe it is the pilot bearing. I could be mistaken. About the synthetic engine oil. Synthetic engine oil has been debated many times in the past. After reading many threads i decided to switch to synthetic. Unlike dino oil, synthetic has a very low ash rate and does not cause as much carbon buildup.
