Trailing coil pack....

Could anyone tell me what the symptoms of a faulty trailing coil pack might be like?

Why don't you post the symptoms you are having. Then maybe we can give you some ideas.

I doubt you'd really even be able to tell the trailing pack was going out. The trailing ignition just cleans up a bit after the leading - leading handles most of the power.

If you put a timing light on the trailing wires and get nothing, that would be one way to test if it's bad. Or, pull a trailing wire off the plug, put a spare plug in it, hold the plug to ground, and have someone crank the car - if you've got spark, the trailing coil is working.

Yeah when I put my motor back together my trailing coil also was fried. Kinda weird it worked before I pulled my motor. But yeah the test that DaleClark suggested is the fastest way to tell if its toast.

If it is fried, would you feel any difference in performance?

Probably not so much with the trailing. My leading went though and I ran like **** when it was going out, then it died and the car wouldn't start.

Disconnect the leading and you'll know in a big hurry if a trailing isn't working properly. The car will run on the trailing only--but not very well. If it doesn't run at all, or you've got a pronounced miss (as opposed to just feeling sluggish and out of time) then you probably have a trailing problem. I would be surprised if it's the coil, however; that's one of the more reliable parts of the ignition.

would the engine still try to turn over if the leading pack was fried?

yes it will turn over fine and it should start as well after a bit of effort.

DVS do the test dale talked about with taking the plug wires off the 2 top plugs and putting spark plugs in each one, one at a time and touching something metal while turning it over to see if there's spark.

you dont know whats wrong? what is your car doing what makes you suspect anything?

My FD would start and run with NO leading spark. I drove it for a few days while the leading was dead until I figured out what was wrong. It took much longer to start and didn't run well, stalled a lot too. But it DID run.

Hope this helps.

Surgemonster, my car runs quite well, the boost is very responsive, car feels very "torquey" and the pattern is strong at 12lbs. The transition is very smooth and the car pulls great after cross over. On the other hand when im cruising at say 2800-3000 rpm in say third gear and WOT the car does not acclerate very quickly. The car during this period seems to be sluggish. I see and hear the boost being created and the pattern is strong, but the car feels hesitant. But, if I punch through the gears quickly the car is fast as gangbusters, with seemingly no hesitation at all. My problem seems to be only at cruising speeds.... And just to let you know the turbos are new 99 efini's...
