trailer hitch for FD?

Need to tow a tire/tool trailer this year as I'm going to be running *serious* track tires (R1-S instead of NT01s I ran last year).

I did a search and found old threads showing a pretty neat-o U-Haul hitch that doesn't require any butchery of bodywork, but apparently it is no longer available. https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...l-pics-337174/

Anybody have one of these lying around? Other options?

TIA!

A far more difficult route but wayyyyy more practical is to talk the wife into letting you use her mini van:

Better yet bring her and the kiddies along! Throw in the BBQ and blowup kiddie pool and every event is a family vacation!
I do have to warn you there is a major draw back to this plan. Notice in the picture who is putting their driving shoes on.

The U-Haul was a good set-up, I used it for years with a little trailerette from harbor freight.

If you can't locate a used one (I sold mine), it really wouldn't be too difficult for a good fabricator to just build you a similar replica. It bolted through existing holes on the subframe, and then you needed to drill four holes in the AL bumper support and fish u-bolts through in the rear.

I just went to the U-Haul website and plugged this info and there it is.
And they can shipped to you and all.

Still have mine. But probably only sold as local pick-up item.

Warning: After you've stripped your car down and bought hundreds or thousand of dollars worth of lightweight carbon goodies, you'll lay awake at night obsessing about the extra 35 lbs this thing hangs on the back of your car.

Cool

I don't think it weights 35 pounds and I have one installed.
And unless you are at the professional level of racing, I doubt you will feel or notice the difference.
It also serves as a reinforcement for the rear sub-frame assembly and I like driving and only swapping tires, it's easier and faster.
Only drawback is, if you break down at the track.
IMHO

I ran one for 10 years, so speaking from experience. Might not be 35, but it is heavy.

Well, that was easy! I should know better than to just assume that because someone 5+ years ago said he couldn't order it, that doesn't mean it's true.
I sent an email and got a reply that they will fab it, so I'm gonna order one up.

This would bug the hell out of me, as the car is already a bit heavier than I'd like, but...
COMSCC (the club I do time trials with) recently went to a points system, and to be able to run in the fastest "touring" class (T100) with the tires I want to run this year I need to add about 40-50 lb. of ballast (and that's with 3/4-tank of fuel). Otherwise I get bumped into the fastest "super" class, which is for race cars on slicks.

The hitch puts the weight as far back and as low as possible, even better than putting weight in the spare tire well!

I'm also putting a 99+ wing on it for modest rear downforce to help put the power down. Figure that weighs another ~20 lb maybe?

Car is going to be a porker at 2900 lb. empty and needs to be 3159 lb. with fuel and me in it to be legal in my class. But at least weight distribution will improve to 49F/51R

This is the first time I have heard an FD referred to as a "porker". That struck me as very funny

A full tank of gas should be around 160 pounds, so that should help pork you up

I've had one for about 18 months
Works great!
Don't bother cutting the square access holes to thread the bolts through, the bolts are D-shaped so you can put them up through the drilled holes and swing them around and back down in to place
