Cool Track-Only: NO Thermostat? Bypass hole?

Sup guys,

I've been tracking FC's for a long minute, and now cutting my teeth on an FD.

Running stock ports, emissions delete, Apexi PowerFC, ID2000's, Fuelab FPR, GSP 7081 Turbo, Greddy FMIC, Big Oil Cooler, Coolant/WaterWetter, etc., etc.

QUESTION:

Is the FD cooling system a bypass-system like the FC? Is there a bypass port underneath the OEM Thermostat that needs to be blocked off like the FC when you run no thermostat?

Cruising temps right now is 88*C/190*F, and I'd like to try and get it down to 70*C/160*F like on my FC.

This is a Yes or No question. NOT a "lecture me on why I need to run a thermostat" thread, pretty please.

Since you are so smart why don't you just look at the service manual and figure it out yourself?

I am certainly no mechanic but looking through the "Big Fat Cooling Thread" it appears yes, there is a bypass port:

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...thread-571088/

Maybe someone more mechanically expert than I can verify.

Is there a reason you want to run at 160?

I've rode in Fritz Flynn car at VIR and with him beating on it ALL day at full speed with a thermostat, it never got over 180.

Seems like with a proper setup, overheating is not an issue.

Yes, there's a bypass hole.

Running without a thermostat will actually allow a portion of hot engine coolant to bypass the radiator. There is really no reason to remove the thermostat. Unless you live somewhere where it never gets cold, I wouldn't run a 160 degree thermostat. Generally 180 is the lowest I go.

He clearly said he didn't want a discussion about it. Just a yes or no answer is all he wants lol

Ok then no. Don't run without a thermostat. I'm not one to just post random things without explanation.

why do drifters RUIN EVERYTHING

edit: just change out that dumb FMIC for a VMIC and you will have no cooling problems.

just like fritz, i've tracked my car HARD in 90*F outside temps and the coolant temp got nowhere near 200.

Strange that RacingBeat says free flow is best with no "flow restrictors", where as the other says to gut the thermostat because the water pump will cavitate..

Bro, can't you read? He clearly typed that he has been tracking for a LONG minute obviously we are dealing with a professional driver who can't even read a simple diagram. Or since he is so hell bent on removing the thermostat just take it out and op would see there is a bypass.

Or even better if the OP had any understanding about pumps and what happened when one dead heads a pump it would be obvious that there must be a bypass in the system. Or if OP understood what happens to a motor internally when there is no water circulation it again would be obvious there is a bypass in the cooling system.

QUESTION:

Do you prefer your car to look like that, or did you recently buy it for really cheap and haven't gotten around to making it functional or aesthetically pleasing yet?

This is a Yes or No question. NOT a "lecture me on why hella flush / rocket bunny isn't ugly" thread, pretty please.

Here is info on the OP's (Angry Earl) "truckasaurus" FC. He's pretty connected with the Formula Drift Seattle ProAm Series:

CARSPOTTING> Comrades FC3S Truckasaurus RX7 – MotorMavens | Car Culture and Photography

As he drifts, his temp needs might be very different than road course driving. Maybe we in the FD "community" can give him some helpful advice although I think he has his answer.

Angry Earl, I look forward to seeing what you end up with. Take some action shots and post them up.

I love this forum, I really do. The answer is to just get a lower temp thermostat, go for it.
goddamn that car is ugly.

Le sigh...couldn't just let it go, so here goes...

jacobcartmill and his homo-life partner RENESISFD up there -

Well, listen here you ******* *****...you feel like punching me in the face? bring it on you *******. I know multiple fighting styles, and I also carry a sswitchblade with me at all times. Something ******* tells me that you'd be better off keeping your arms down at your sides. If you can't ******* put "cause" and "effect" together in that pathetic brain of yours, I'll help you out here. You'll be standing face to face with me, and let me ******* tell you, it'll already be too ******* late to back down at that point. You might decide "well ****, I might as well stay true to my word and throw a ******* punch". This is where you will go wrong. I hope you don't have a job that requires two ******* hands, because you're going to be missing one after I'm done with you. I'll casually divert your fist off to the side, as you suddenly realize you may have gotten yourself into something you can't back up. You'll try to regroup and pull your arm back, but that wont be easy when I jab my spear-pointed Benchmade switchblade straight through the bone in your forearm, and proceed to rip your entire ******* forearm and hand off in one quick pull. At this point, you'll probably spend 2 seconds in shock. I say 2 seconds, because thats the amount of time you'll have before I reverse the knife in my hand, and uppercut it straight through your throat. You'll spend your last few seconds gurgling blood, and wondering where you went wrong. After that, I'll be forced to take care of any witnesses who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nothing a few quick choke slams can't fix, followed by a nice gentle slice across the jugular with the Benchmade.

Now, *************, you sure you want to go through with that punch?
