TopSpeed Downpipe

Anyone here had issues with putting the bottom nut/stud for the downpipe? previous owner broke a stud on the turbo and the downpipe so i gotta replace em. sondering if anyone was able to get a nut on there? or what ya'll did to make sure all the nuts fit on the downpipe. i'm already getting new turbo gaskets, d/p gaskets, return line gaskets and all the copper washers. Thanks guys!

Carlos

BTW mazdatrix stuff good? thats where i'm ordering the exhaust gaskets.

I installed a Bonez DP and had the same problem. I put th enut on the stud first and then installed the them together. You may have to have to play around with how far you thread the nut on the stud.

have fun!!!

Not sure if I understand what you're asking. Is there a broken stud still in the manifold? If so, there's a pretty easy fix for that. Craftsman sells a stud removal kit that looka like a regular socket kit. The socket bites down on the (broken or not) stud when turning counter clockwise, giving you enough leverage to remove the studs.

Search for: broken stud, downpipe removal etc... there's plenty of good info on exactly how to remove those bastards!!

BTW, a light propane torch seemed to help me with mine.

no need for the torch...just soak it get a breaker bar and apply some muscle...okay i lied a lot of muscle...take the abs sheild off and the bottom nut u mean connecting the midpipe and downpipe or what? if its that one remove the tranny shield it makes things easier..also jack ur car up on all four braces and its a lot easier that way...more room to work

Well the bottom stud/nut is very cramped on an aftermarket downpipe - the pipe basically prevents anything sturdy from turning it. I have to use an open-ended wrench on mine. On the stock DP, I sort of remember a little more space, but not much.

I use PB Blaster for penetrant oil. WD-40 is not as good as a true penetrating oil (like liquid wrench, Kroil, PB Blaster, etc)

If the wd-40 dosent work, the blowtorch should. When I swaped out mydp I really soaked the nuts overnight and the next morning they came out so easy.
