Lets say you run 80mph at 4000rpms in 5th gear. Does this mean you'd run 160mph at 8000 rpms?

the tested top speed of a stock 3rd gen was about 161mph...i am sure it was HP limited so with enough mods and HP you could run up to red line..there was a similar thread in the 2nd gen part..oh boy...they were saying that at 160 on the speedo you were really only going 130 or so...etc, etc..you guys have fun with this thread..lots of name calling on the 2nd gen part..everybody's an expert ya know

one more thing...a rule of thumb drive in 5th at 2000rpm and record you speed..then drive 3000 in 5th and record your speed. Subtract the difference..this is your MPH gain per 1000rpm. EX 2000rpm is 60mph and 3000rpm is 90mph..so per 1000rpm you gain 30mph..the gain is a constant since the ratio is set once you are in that gear..get it? now you can figure out your top speed at 7000rpm or 8000rpm etc etc etc

Nice work Trevor...I was just about to say the same thing...I still have not taken my car into 5th gear yet. By the time I shift into 5th I'm already doin 155. I will sometime soon. Actually, I probably won't until I get a new braking system next year. Good luck with the thread radiant.

In 4th gear? Not unless you've got 28" tall tires...

dont go through all that trouble
just go buy a GPS reciver and videotape it
most GPS recivers tell speed along w/ location
and they are the most accurate of all
then when your done w/ it take it back to where you bought it and say its not what you wanted.

Talking 170+ with vid

With the right hp you will run out of gear somewhere in the 190's in 5th.

Here's vid of mine hitting 170+mph......before lifting, road was getting bumpy !!!!
Or else I would had continued....also had passenger too.

uh..asking me? not sure but the diffusor would have to be a real one and not just one for looks....the SALEEN has no wings and gets sucked to the ground by the diffusor(many other things too) so they are effective.just dont try anything and say that I said it was OK....know what I mean..I can't really say anything specifc here as what to get because it would just be a guess on my part..not a wing and spoiler expert...just an enthusiast

Thanks I wont do anything stupid. It seems like to to many know about downforce.I did a lot of searches and it seems like it's very hard to get info on the spec's of rear diffuser's.

Friend of mine worked a formula based on his indicated RPM's, wheel diameter, and some other **** to determine he was doing 153mph down the back straight at ViR. Mods are intake, dp, mp, catback, PFC, PF Intercooler, stripped interior, ac and airpump removed, maybe someother stuff, not sure what boost he was running, he ususally keeps it around 10lbs.

Oh, and that was on 1 working rotor

Jim, you surprise me. You can't be saying that MATH analysis is **** compared to someone thinking that you will gain the same mph per 1000 rpm in each gear (in a vacuum possibly).

Here is the formula that I used:

RPM x Tire Diameter = x

5th gear ratio x Final drive ratio x 336 = y

x/y = mph

A properly running FD should easily top 150mph in stock trim. Please don't do those speeds on the public roads. There are far too many cars destroyed in this way.

What's the margin of error of the analog tachometer? What's the actual circumference of the fully loaded tire? Where is wind resistance and friction with the road surface and tire slip factored in?

Your formula is no more accurate than comparing mph gained per 1,000 rpm and using it to calculate top speed at redline. Neither one takes into consideration real-world variables.

A properly running FD should easily top 150mph in stock trim.
With enough runway.
