Tied To A Rsx Type-s!?!?

the other day i decided to race my friend in his 2002 Rs-X Type S after we got of after work......I drive a 94' touring Rx-7 bone stock and he drives a 2002 rsx with just an Intake......well i noticed on the take off i always took him but as my rpm's started to gettin a bit higher he kept gaining on me! for some reason it feels like the turbos kick in whenever they feel like it which pisses me off but it feels that it runs stronger at night........and also my 3rd gear scratches which im more than sure it is because the 5th gear synchro.....but i was wondering is their something wrong with my turbos? they make like this loud suckkin or breathin noise after 3300 rpm?! what gives! ?!

I'm no tech here. But you ever clean your intake?

I have left a type-S further back than the eye can see....

I don't think a stock for stock race would be even close given that both cars are in good shape

hmm... well... you'll often get better performance at night because it's cooler. cooler air = "thicker" air = more hp.... hence the whole intercooler thing.

if your 3rd gear scratches, it has nothing to do with your 5th gear synchro, it's a problem with, well, your 3rd gear synchro. how many miles are on your tranny?

if your turbos kick in whenever they feel like it, you have turbo issues. The 7's boost pattern is very predictable and only does anything weird if you floor it, let off real quick and then floor it again. If you hear airy noises after a certain rpm then you likely have a boost leak or problems with the sequential crap. how many miles are on your turbos and on your engine? have you done a hose job recently?

the RSX Type-S has 200hp and 147 ft/lbs of torque.
0-60 is 6.1s
1/4 is 14.8 @ 95

the RX-7 has 255 hp and 210 ft/lbs of torque.
0-60 is 5.0 sec.
1/4 is ~14 @ ~100

you should have no problem taking him.

Do you have boost gauge?? Check the hoses and rubber hose connectors to the intercooler. The only way you can loose a stock race with an RSX is if you miss a gear or something!

Or dragging a boat anchor...
Or towing a Jetski...
Or going down hill with no gas in tank...
Or missing a wheel...

A stock FD should definitely blow away an rsx type s.

where are you in CA? There's TONS of *good* rotary shops out here, I'm sure we can find a good one around you that can diagnose a boost leak and get you running correctly.

I concur you have a turbo problem. Get a boost gauge and get a hose job. Once it is fixed slap that RSX around like crazy Make sure you run him while you are still stock b/c we'd hate for him to tell his freinds with RSXs that they can take a stock RX-7

With that much mileage, you COULD also have a cloged precat....

You REALLY need to get a boost gauge
