For those that think that the AST is useless.

I wonder why Mazda would add it to their 4-rotor racecar? Hmmm..... they must know something we dont.

Curious

I was keeping my ast just for the extra coolant but am defiantly not getting rid of it now.

Yup, they know something we don't.

The FD ast is not useless, but does not compare with that one in pic. Note that the top feed comes from a large stagnation tank in the main coolant line .. very effective in full time, ingested air separation.

I would ask another question .... where is the radiator located?

um I think the one pictured works a lot better than AST that came in our cars. It taps the coolent passages at the highest points therefore allowing air to bleed out. Ours only gets it at one point. If you want a functional AST you need to do it like this.
I would tap one at the top of the radiator, and probably also in the back where it goes to the throttle body. Maybe that would work better? correct me if I'm wrong.

ya, top of rad and top of filler neck would be good high inputs to ast. top of rad is a decent stagnation tank, esp big fluidyne tank. may be a bit too turbulant ... top of crossflow return tank is better.

I'm trying an accumultor, dead headed off bott of rad (looks much like the polished tank behind rad in nissan pic). the ~12 oz air pocket gets squished 50% at 1.1 bar, and holds system pressure constant. normally hot pressure can drop and u loose the elevated boiling point.
