Think i have an idea of why its running so rich.....

Refer to this post for previous info...

Jesus.....So Rich!

Last night I remember putting the motor back together and recognizing that the coolant temp sensor was broken and having to replace it. Rather than go to mazda and get a new one, the guy that owns the car wanted to go to Advance Auto Parts and buy a new one. They didnt have a part number for the coolant temp sensor, so we looked through the GP Sorensen book to find a sensor that looked like it matched. After we found one, thats the one we installed.

I looked through the troubleshooting manual last night and it states that the coolant temp sensor can be the cause for a lot of things....(knocking, pinging, poor performance, etc) In theory the coolant temp sensor could be reporting faslely to the car that its cold and dumping in more fuel for the startup? This could also be a source of why the knock sensor is being triggered.

Anyone have any input?

PS--I think the cooalnt temp sensor is also referred to (on this website) as the thermosensor, and in that case I might as well do the mod from the late 80/early 90 rx7's correct?
