Things to do for a new FD owner
i have read that banzai racing suggest
Replace Coolant and ensure adequate levels at all times.
Replace Air Filter
Replace Brake Fluid
Replace Manual Transmission Oil (Redline MT-90)
Replace Rear Axle Oil (Redline MT-90)
How easy are these to do
How do i simply check the coolant level to ensure its adequate?
Thanks

Those maintenance tasks are fairly simple to complete, about the same as any average car. If you are a new owner you need to find the factory service manuals, download them, and read them thoroughly. This car will require you to have major skills in maintenance and troubleshooting. You should really dive into the 3rd gen forums and read, read, read. Search and read, then search and read some more.

Coolant, just like any other fluid, should be flushed and replaced (so that there is no question when the last time it was freshened). If you are not familiar with these tasks, check out the FAQ:
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...l-links-68640/
and also the FSM (Factory Service Manual) which will have some links to them under "F" in the FAQ.

I would also suggest neo synthetic tranny fluid over the redline. Some have reported issues with redline after changing to that fluid.
Get a boost gauge and water temp gauge. Sure, it might be full but if it's not flowing properly you'll run into problems. With the aftermarket gauge though you'll be able to identify an issue before it becomes a problem.

FD owners are an old rusty bunch, but they know this fantastic car. Trust the guys with the rotors below their screen names and follow the links. Thanks guys for your dedication. Make sure to bookmark this website and visit daily because there is more knowledge here than any modern Mazda dealer. I've lurked for so long with nothing to say, its all been said and done before. I know I've read more than 10 thousand pages on this site. You will find everything you need here.

Brake check (refresh fluid and assess pads), coolant/oil/tranny/diff flush, make sure your tires are not trash obviously, check suspension and bushings for play/clunks, check boost pattern for 10-8-10psi, consider a downpipe to replace the pre-cat, and an aftermarket AST (or new plastic one if you're feeling lucky ) and replace the god awful stock headlights (shameless plug, but they're actually terribly unsafe). I think if you hit most of those items you'd have a nice (hopefully reliable) FD.

Not sure I can agree about the headlights. But a good fire extinguisher and a solid safe mount is another thing...
