There's a burnt/gassy smell somewhere.

Just recently its started getting cold around here, I don't know if that has anything to do with it but... I'm getting the burnt/gassy smell coming from the car. I think it may be the fuel filter because I stopped the other day and could see some sort of smoke in my side mirror coming out of the rear driver-side tire well. What are the chances that this is my problem? I'm just scared to drive the car at the moment thinking that my cars going to catch fire. Anybody experienced this before? I have had the fuel line recall (or whatever that recall was with the fuel related fire issues). Thanks in advance.

Seen once or twice where a fuel smell was caused by a warn out charcol canister. But not sure if that would account for the burnt smell. In any case, it sounds like a good idea to change out that fuel filter. Its a hell of a job, but at least then you won't have to be worried about it catching your car on fire. While you're back there, check to make sure you don't have any fuel leaks. Scary thought, fuel dripping from a leaking filter onto the muffler ...

well I guess it would have helped for me to look under the car before I placed this thread! Turns out I had a damn plastic grocery bag melting to my exhaust. Could have been worse...
