Are there ANY downfalls to upgrading the IC???

Either Im terrible typing in the right words for a search or there isnt anythng....so I apologize if this is a REPEAT!

Im hoping to get a IC in the next week or so but Im finding myself flip flopping to one of the nice SMIC's out there or a FMIC.
Are there any negatives I shld be aware of when searching for an upgraded IC???? Ive been reading a few things about pressure drop and so forth and quite frankly I have no f'cking clue to what that or the other crap means.....Anyone up for a quick lesson in all this IC garble?

Also gimme ur opinion as to what I shld lean towards w/ my mods below.....I dont think Ill be adding any other power type mods in the near future. More than likely Im gonna hold off till I need a rebuild and at that time will make a decision if I want to go single.....Im reading some stuff about that GT35/40 set up and sounds very interesting. I cant wait to see it in person.

TY for any help!

fmic definately has more benefits for your intake temps. . . and it looks better. the smic units like the m2 and the performance garage are very good units they are awesome. i havent personally done anything to find out which is better, but if you are afraid of any cooling problems then you need to steer away from the fmic..... unless you are putting in another radiator. i like the smic cause it kinda keeps everyone from thinking about my car. . . thiefs and all the ricers, hehe!

Pressure drop is just what it sounds like, if you have 12 psi entering the IC from the turbos and the IC has a drop of 3 psi, you will only get 9 psi out of IC.

Although many people will disagree, an FMIC is not that desirable with the stock twins. The pressure drop will make your twins work too hard and like rotorbrain said, will not help with any overheating issues. Stick with a good SMIC like M2 medium. You can still use a SMIC with a single turbo (max cooper does), so you are still able to directly upgrade if you go single in the future.

If you don't race the car, then I wouldn't worry about a FMIC (unless you just want the grill look in front of the car).

The FMIC does restrict the air flow a little, so usually you'll want to upgrade the radiator or add some ducting to allow some air to the radiator.

If you are just a street driver, the SMIC would probably be a better fit for you, plus you'll have less work for installation.

Vosko - I figure you would tell him not to deal with Greddy, considering the problems you've been having with them.

Anyway, regarding the Greddy, if you're not going to go crazy with mods, their IC is a great drop-in replacement for stock.
