Tested a FD earlier today...

Hi all,

I've come across a nice project 1993 base RX-7 with 88K miles + rebuilt title. For mods, he has a Greddy catback, Pettit downpipe, Airinx intakes, AST replacement. (No boost gauge!) I found a couple things about it and was wondering how much it would probably cost for aftermarkets/repairs....and also to check if it is normal/expected. ...everything else about the car seemed fine...so far. The seller is asking for about $9G to $10G. What do you guys think. Thanks.

(1) Both headlights flip up fine but when I turn them off (flip back down)...the left light sorta' jerks/studders going down while the other right light flips down regular.

(2) The clutch slips easily.

(3) The manaul stick is loose/wobbly in neutral.

(4) When in neutral/idle, I just tapped the gas just to check. But when the needle gets back down to 1000/15000 RPM, the car seems to want to bog down (shut off).

1) Dunno, but those light lift motors are not cheap

2) As a project, you're going to pull the motor/gearbox anyway, right? So you'd fit a new clutch at the same time anyhow..

3) This is usually just a small nylon bush at the bottom of the stick - $15 from Mazda and 5 minutes to fix.

4) Probably just tuning.

Unless you plan to pull the motor down anyways, get a compression check.
Look for Oil in the water, or water in the oil.
Excessive Smoke is not good, but a little is OK.

I guess it all depends on how much you want a "project" and how much you want something to drive straight away.

You usually get what you pay for

i think that i might know about the headlight problem. this happened in a buddies car. turned out that the fuse box next to the headlight was wedged next to the motor and it wouldnt let the little red **** turn fast enough. check that out

Thanks again, I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Hi,

Yah, the interior is really nice..clean and great; no paint chips/etc. Very nice. I'll see what happens though. Still deciding since they're are many factors. But I'm in no rush to get one; who knows...this may be the 1st of many, many I check out beforing purchasing one.

I'll keep everyone posted. Tim

P.S. ...Snook, I remember what the stuff you told me to look out for, including rebuilt titles. I didn't know it was a rebuilt title until I we checked it out in person when he told me more about it.
