Temps keep Climbing??
Hi everyone! Just installed the Greddy 2 row fmic and the water temps just keep climbing when I dont have the fans on. Seems I have to keep the fans on all the time. When I do that it stays 80C-85C but if I turn them off it just keeps climbing and climbing!! Does anyone else have this problem? I followed the directions exactly (standing up A/C and radiator). I am running a fluydine radiator and Evans Coolant. Anyways what can I do to fix this? Even on the highway it will climb and climb. Any suggestions would be great! I searched and seems people dont have to run their fans all the time. Please help!

how long have you owned a fd much less any other car??? If you dont know to keep the fans on (especially with a FMIC), that's pretty sad (especially for speeds which are under the tripple digits region). Common sence is not as common as it seems I guess...

Well it's normal for the car to run a bit hotter with an FMIC. It IS blocking the radiator. Just keep the fans running all the time. Have a heat shield so all the heat from the radiator does not flow to the intake.

Well I guess you must excuse my stupidity. For your information I had the M2 smic and when I would start moving i would NOT HAVE TO KEEP THE FANS ON and the temps would stay below 90C. I have owned my car for about a year and have never had a problem with the temps climbing. Jeeeezz I wasnt asking for a smart reply I just wanted to know if people have come up with solutions to getting more air to the radiator with a FMIC in which i dont have to keep the fans going all the time. Thanks for adding something to my post of no value.

"people like you” Listen you yourself. The same could be said about you in the connotation of discouraging a fellow RX-7 owner. You need to quit this immature feedback.
FDs don't explode or melt. Unless you have a gas leak or engine fire. They detonate or the coolant seals start leaking. If you are going to be a smart-*** get the jargon of your RX-7 lexicon straight.
He is monitoring his car, BTW. These vehicles require this on a constant basis. He is well aware of its state (temps etc). I think your problem with it has more to with your arrogance than his question.
Personally, I would not expect you would have to leave the fans on all the time with him having Evans coolant and a fluidyne.
And damn, I thought you were younger than me. I guess a lot has to be said for wisdom rather than age. You sound more like a Honda-Ricer with something to prove. We (RX-7 owners) are a bit above this, don't you think?

Ps. Learn how to spell common sense please.

HOOAH!!
Scottie, I put the M2 Large SMIC in my car and I began to see increased temps at idle. Where I used to be at 87C during idle I am now well above 95C upwards of 99C. I am a bit worried and run my fan. When I am crusing I stay at 87C. I might try flushing my system and putting in some water wetter and see if I get better temps. Of course, I may have to work with the duct that came with my M2 to ensure there is no leakage of hot air back to the radiator (I too am running an SR Motorsports/Fluidyne) radiator.

For all those who replied trying to help me I greatly appreciate it and thank you for contributing to the cohesiveness thats unique to the Rotary community. Anyways I made a steel scoop that goes from the bottom of my FMIC to the radiator forcing air upward. I had my friend weld some brackets on and I tapped a new hole on the passenger side to make it fit perfectly. I will post pics & the parts used if anyone is interested. This is only for the Greddy as the others seem to have the radiator fitting directly behind the intercooler (i.e. Apexi, Blitz). This might work for the HKS as it sits in front of the engine bay. Thanks again guys.

The stock computer doesn't turn the fans on until 221F, which is 105C. Now, with your mods you shouldn't have a stock computer, but a "chipped" or piggyback fuel computer should do the same thing. If you have PFC or Haltech or other standalone system, then you can set the fans to turn on whenever you want. The bottom line is, as long as the temps will stay down with the fans on, just make sure the comupter turns them on at 105C or below and you are fine. If you aren't comfortable with running around at 105C you can rig up the fan mod or something else to turn them on earlier, but using Evans running at 105C is perfectly fine, just relax and let the computer do all the work. Your problem is the FMIC blocks airflow into the radiator so you'll need something extra to pull air through it and keep things cool, not really much you can do about it.
