If the insurance company ruined the Evo idea it will certainly ruin the FD RX-7 too.

Which is good, because the FD is far worse for a teenage driver than the Evo. There are very few cars I would recommend less than the FD for a teenager, and maintenance cost is only a small portion of that thought.

Someone said to me the other day that puchasing an FD could be the best or worst decision of your life.... that rings true here, I believe.

Live fast, die young, leave a good looking corpse. Don't listen to these old fogeys.
They want to spoil your fun. When you get your RX-7 and it rains, speed up! Only wussies dial it back. YEEEEHAWWW!!!!!

What do we do differently? We don't use pistons and constantly troubleshoot why our car isn't running properly... FD for a first car is a NO WAY!! Especially if they won't insure you for a sedan... A 2 seater sports car?! You don't stand a chance!

See what I mean? It's like your mom and dad lecturing you at the dinner table.
Screw that. You know you have a need for speed.

Unless youve driven, can rip apart a rotary and put it back together, and have spent atleast 2 years researching this car..... THEN think about it.

Honestly, you're better off getting an NA FC as your first RX-7/rotary. That will give you a great start to the world of rotaries/rx-7's and 146/160hp shouldn't get you killed, well, not as fast as an FD would. It'll be a lot more reliable than an FD, cheaper on insurance, better gas mileage, and easier to work on. Now PM a moderator and have this thread closed before you get flamed

No flaming here, but please read the FAQ's and stickies at the top of this page - they contain a HUGE amount of info that will help you.

If you have to ask questions like that, the FD is NOT for you.

1. Complicated boost control system
2. Intolerance to bad gas, poor maintenance, careless driving
3. Subject to engine failures due to incompatible power upgrades
4. Closest thing in any reasonable price range to a racecar for the street

The penalties and rewards are just a lot greater than with most cars.

Again, read and learn before you jump.

There are just more things that can go wrong. Honestly though, look at the price of the car then add 3,000 onto that and thats probably where you will be in the first year, if you get an alright deal. As long as you take car of it and don't complain when you have to spend lots of money on it, then I see no reason not to get one. Just dont be a douche, take it easy until you have gotten a feel for it. Look for a stock one if anything.
