Is this tape on the front of the car?

I will be taking my car in to get the aspec 500r installed. I am a big baby when it comes to marks on the car, and I want to avoid that from happening.

I have seen many people put something on their cars when making long drives. I was thinking of getting it to put on mine to reduce the chances of scratches or swirls while it is being worked on. Too me it looks like painters tap or some kind of mask.

Here is an example of what I mean..

Am I correct, that is just painters tape? I assume it comes off easily without damaging the paint?

In the picture it looks like really bad paint job or a custom bra. but yes you can put painters tape so you have that small layer of protection from scratches when working on the car. I do it, and it comes off easy, if there is residue just use goop gone (safe on paint). People put painters tape over lights when running at the track or strip in case of derbies hitting the car. and it works.

Blue painters tape....

Really bad paint job? yes. originally red. and macco'd white twice before i bought it.

Custom bra? no. an hour worth of taping it to perfection.

Doesnt leave residue, as long as you use the THICK blue painters tape. feels more like paper. i know there is a thinner one that feels smooth and that leaves a residue but washes off easily with car wash soap.

Thats actually my car. traveling from NJ>NC>NJ so i taped it.

correct sir. my buddy did that to his audi when ever he brought it to a show. its cheap, and a fairly thick material so does a great job protecting paint. also comes off real easy leaving almost no residue.

My body shop used some of that blue tape, and it removed some paint on the edge of the hood. Be careful with it, and don't leave it on too long.

I know someone who put the painters tape on their car and when he removed it it took the touchup paint with it. So I agree with Adam c... Be careful.

The blue painters tape comes in different strengths........ Just make sure u get the one with the least amount of adhesiveness and your good to go...

Im crazy with my paint.... and I used that tape for 3 trips and it never left a mark.... also you can just wet it and it will peal off even easier.

I have always wondered where to get the white plastic film/overlays that manufacturers and dealers throw over their new cars. Cant imagine those to be much more than buying rolls of 3M painters tape.

use GREEN 3M automotive painters tape, the blue stuff is for houses which is probably why those who've used it have had paint taken off their car upon removal. Thats not to say you CAN sometime get away with using the blue tape but the green tape adhesive is specifically formulated for automotive paint/clear and iirc can be left on longer then the blue tape.

I picked up a roll of the blue tape a few hours ago. It was the light adhesive. While it should only be on the car for a week tops, it claimed it can stay on paint for 90 days.

I slapped it on my daily driver and my wife's mini van to test it out lol. I can see it leaving a bit of residue already but I will give it a few days then peel it off to see how it goes.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. If this some how ruins the paint on either car then I will know not to put it on the 7, and I will look else where

use magnetic fender covers for working on your car *assuming you have metal fenders*

thats because touch up paint has to be applied the same way as paint thats sprayed on..... sanded, painted, cured, we sanded and polished.

the paint brush/pen they sell at most parts stores and dealers are not the proper way and actually make it look like someone dripped wax on your car

^ Agreed, was just letting the op know that even though it is not supposed to remove paint it can remove the touch up paint.

OP, If you are going to be putting the tape on your car for a while I would put a few good coats of wax on to help prevent any damage to the paint.
