Taking off Stock Spoiler?

I was just wondering if it's difficult to take off the Stock Spoiler to go Spoilerless. How are they held on? Will there be holes or anything underneath?

Thanks

not a big fan of 'spoilerless' rx7s, but it can be done with no holes evident remaining, if you have the right people doing it. have seen it done before, and the people that did it had no holes, dents etc. it was perfectly smooth.

i have never done it but they have to be bolted on, if u remove it there will be at least 4 holes (but its probably 6) that would have to be filled in by a body shop (weld, bondo, paint etc). or u could possibly just get some rubber plugs???

I believe the stock spoiler has four holes where the spoiler bolts to the hatch. As others have said, a body shop can fill the holes. If faced with a choice of the stock spoiler or spoilerless, I'd go without. The stock spoiler doesn't look that good IMO and I believe it isn't really functional. The 99 spec spoiler is much nicer IMO.

Not exactly your answer but you get the idea...

http://www.fd3s.net/spoiler_install.html (may help, dunno...just try to mentally reverse parts of the installation procedure)

and

http://www.negative-camber.org/crispyrx7/99wing.htm (...talks about removing '93-95 wing for a '99 wing)

I am also thinking of removing the stock spoiler but would like the option to replace it or bolt on another one later. Has anyone had experience plugging the holes with something removable (i.e. not welding them and repainting)? Crispy mentions a "plastic plug" in his write-up. What plug? Anyone have any other methods?

Its going to look pretty ghetto with the holes if you plug them. I would get either a wingless hatch or have a good body shop fill them. To do it right they need to be welded, them smoothed over. Simply filling with bondo will deform and they will show through the paint in time.

Thanks for the good advice regarding filling - I agree for the long term (I have a trip to a shop in store anyway since I would want a new wing painted).

For now I'm looking for a less expensive temporary solution, since I may install another wing in the future. I'm imagining something like a black anodized wide flush aluminum head bolt that I can put some thin foam under - something like that to ensure a good seal. If I painted them, they wouldn't look that bad I bet. Anyone have any experience with good methods for plugging holes?

Just make sure you use something that will seal out water. Otherwise you might one day find a few gallons of smelly, stale water in your spare tire well.

I took mine off and there was 8 holes. I was ghetto and put tape over them...however, I did have plans to eventually have them filled.

^^^ When I wrote "4 holes" I was thinking "4 holes per side". 8 holes is correct on the stock spoiler, 4 on each side. If you look at this thread there is a picture down near the bottom of the page that shows an aftermarket wing mounted on a base or R model. If you look closely you can see 3 of the 4 stock holes that are open in the photo. The other four holes are used to mount that aerofiber wing.
