Taillights
Taillights
I am stuck with my instrument cluster and taillights not working. I have checked the fuse, checked combo switch, checked TNS.
Changed fuse, changed TNS, bypass the first click on combo switch and tied into headlight (second click) since headlights burn and retract.
There is pwr and continuity when switch on/off, etc.
I tried to go direct. short wire from hot and earth on batt to the taillight but nothing.
Key note*
Once, when I shut pass door the taillights came on and then went off when I closed the driver door. Never came back on again.
All other circuits are working. 4 way, headlights, brakes, radio, air con, etc.
Its a 98, I dont have dimmer.
I have looked over the wiring schematic but am unsure of the actual sequence of what is first from the TNS or Fuse.

The rear harness passes below the LHS passenger door on the RHD., has some connectors (close) below the seat belt retractor, has further connectors for the rear defrost and ABS ecu before getting to the rear lights. All sorts of room for mischief.
A lady up here had a short in such harness below (or at) the seat belt retractor, and the resulting fire took out most of the plastics in the back east area.
Interestingly her car was a '97 version 4.
Pull off the LHS scuff plate and wedge back the carpet to see if there is anything pinching in on the harness.

Don't rule out a faulty new TNS. Also check all your grounds (again). :/
What wiring diagram are you using for your RHD?
Wires may be different from what you see in the USDM wiring/fuse diagrams.
The short harness to the gauge cluster is configured differently, for instance.

I know this is delayed but I appreciate all the responses and feed back. Did all the above. turned out to be a bad connection at the combo switch/headlight switch...which was the last place i looked
